Over the weekend of June 16 to 18 2006, powerboat racing returned to the club for the first time in nearly a decade.
Saturday's weather conditions couldn't have been better, the sea was flat and the weather fine. Around 20 boats were racing, with hundreds of spectators taking in the action from along South Beach.
Sunday's conditions were not so good, with light rain and gusty winds, still around 10 boats raced and some hardy spectators were still out!
The course was over 50 miles and used a circuit that stretched from Gimblet Rock along to the West End of Pwllheli, out into the bay and then back around via Abererch Bay.
The club played host to the safety briefings, the evening buffet and presentation on Sunday afternoon. Racers came from right along the south coast of England, as well as eastern parts of the country. Many were new to the area and said they are looking forward to coming again next year.
About the club
Occupying an enviable position overlooking Pwllheli harbour, the marina and the mountains of Snowdonia, the clubhouse is a perfect place to relax. You can watch the boats come in and out from the marina or, if you're on one, leave your dinghy on the pontoons and pop in.
The club has its own slipway and pontoons, as well as a bar, restaurant, toilets and showers. We hold a variety of events throughout the season and it is hoped that the number of these will increase.
