It is true that our village has lost a lot of shops; this is because of holiday homes. They are rented out throughout the summer to people who only visit Newborough to go to the beach. They do not visit the village. I am no longer bothered about the lack of facilities in this village, as all of the surrounding villages have the same problem, those in power do not acknowledge the needs of their communities. It also doesn’t help with village councillors that are backward thinking. That will not modernise our village, and do not put the interests of local people before those of holidaymakers.Newborough will always be to them a place for retirement and holiday homes.

As a child I'd look over the Menai from my garden and see a large forest fronted by masses of sand and I'd always make believed that strange creatures etc would live there. It wasn't until I started driving in the early 1980's that I actually went over the bridge to this "mysterious land". When I got there it was even more magical than I first anticipated and I've been going there at least once a month ever since. The word beautiful doesn't make it justice.

How do the people of Newborough feel abouth the fact that in the last 20-25 years the village has grown population wise but shrunk facility wise. In the 1980s I remember going to Newborough to do a weekly shop (believe it or not). If memory serves me right there was a post office, bank, diy shop, clothes shop, petrol garage, pub, two butchers, 2 grocers, newsagents, cafe and a games arcade. Now I believe there is only a shop, post office and the pub. I know the birth of the supermarket has killed a lot of places but for example Rhosneigr a similar seaside village to Newborough is still thriving. What do you villagers think about this?
