A glimpse of Graham's work so far...
I put forward a proposal to the Welsh Arts Council to take a sabbatical from Llandrillo College to further develop my skills and I'm spending 12 months visiting the Llanddwyn Island, Newborough and Warren forest area to look at and photograph the change in weather, light, landscape, flora, fauna and people over a year.
People come here to cycle, ride horses, run, fish, swim so I'll be looking at the changing interaction between people and the landscape around them.
But as well as looking at the present, I'm going to be looking into the history of the area - and for that I'd like the help of local people. From the story of St Dwynwen to the importance of Llanddwyn for piloting ships through the Menai Strait, and the marin grass weavers, it's got a very rich history.
I'd be interested in hearing from people who've got stories or old photos to share - either locals or those whose families used to live and work there.
I was talking to Owen and Joan who run a small campsite in Newborough. One day I showed Owen a photo I'd found in the National Library of Wales of an old lady standing in front of some old cottages, holding a telescope and looking out to sea. He smiled, disappeared upstairs, and came back with the exact same old photo - and then the actual telescope. He said she was his grandmother, who was born on Llanddwyn. That was amazing. That's the kind of thing I'd like to find out about.
In 2007 I aim to create a touring exhibition, visiting Bodelwydden and Plas Glyn-y-Weddw galleries. I'd like to use archive photos and those I've taken over 2006 to create a montage - show the transitional changes over a longer period than just one year.
I'm also aiming to try and recreate the sounds, as well as the sights of the Newborough-Llanddwyn area - so if there are any keen amateur sound technicians out there, get in touch!
Anyone who's interested in sharing their story or photos with me should call 01492 642489.
