The old days

Dick Jones

Last updated: 22 November 2006

Dick Jones, born and bred in Newborough, reflects on how life in the village has changed. He also takes us through the changing face of Llanddwyn Island from his perspective as warden.

'School was a hell of a place!' Dick recalls. Leaving at 14, he was set up for a varied career - from selling ice cream to serving in the Forces, rabbit catcher to Llanddwyn warden. Life was never dull.
In Dick's own words...

How did the old inhabitants of Newborough live and how has the habitat changed for wildlife? As island warden, Dick was in a perfect position to see events unfold.
