Not just a pretty landscape

People come to Wales and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Maybe just relaxing and soaking up the views, traipsing over the dunes or pounding the mountain paths. But there's a whole load more than just a pretty landscape.

Look beneath the surface, understand and articulate why things are as they are, and you will develop a much deeper affiliation with the area. Mixing a bit of history with legend and folklore brings the place to life in a colourful way.

In a guided walk around the Mawddach, Twm Elias of Plas Tan y Bwlch (the Snowdonia National Park training centre) did just that. The following articles attempt to capture some of the detail as Twm's butterfly mind jumped from topic to topic, linking local events to a global and sometimes supernatural background.
