Bankshot

Last updated: 27 March 2006

Bankshot

  • Artist / Band: Bankshot
  • From: Sunny old Colwyn Bay
  • Style / influences: Everything and anything - I like my punk, rock, Ska, psychobilly and even the occasional hip-hop and Dnb. Pete likes Paul McCarteny, Nick likes crass influenced scat jazz emo (it's new)
  • Who's in the band?
Joe - lead throat, guitar and occasionally the trumpet, Peet - bass, vocals, Nick - drums
  • Been going since: Joe + Peet = July 2004 - the Bankshot you now know and love from October 2004.
  • Where they play: Nick's House! Nowhere else really
  • Favourite local venue: Dudley Arms, what a mad place!
  • Songs they cover: Blitzkeirg Bop, White Riot, Hopeless Romantic, Jealous again. We do a few others that are good too like Steppin stone which was covered by about 102458 punk bands - originally by the monkees, done by the Sex Pistols, Minor Threat, The Untouchables and The Raiders to name a few.
  • Recordings available: No good ones! we record using tape, wiring and string. Go to punktastic.com and read the review of our demo entitled 'Live at Nick's', it got 1 out of 5 which is pretty generous!
  • Best moment so far: Having a laugh and trying to offend every other band we share the bill with (it always backfires as we are so crap live)
  • Future plans: I am about to have my tea in a minute, then I might nip to the pub later. Oh - the band! Have fun, get drunk, split up with style and go to uni.
  • Favourite other local bands: Starlight Fix - Seize the Day are good, The Cox too but they sold out and now play disco pop.
  • Any bad gigging moments so far?: All of them! My band being too drunk to play at Bar Blu, but we always try and see the funny side. One of the best gigs we did was to 6 people at the Dudley Arms on a Saturday afternoon! Most bands would cry but we had a larf, hell even our drummer wasn't there for that one! So Dave Cox stepped in. Breaking strings when playing to angry 6 hardcore punks shouting stuff is bad too!
  • What's in the name?: Was my fave Operation Ivy song, now I would say Freeze Up is my fave Op'Ivy song, that's a better band name too!
  • Fantasy gig venue?: Scout hut in Old Colwyn, then we would be as cool as crass! I would also say Cbgbs before it shuts for good.
  • Who'd you like to see down the front?: Henry Rollins, Nelson Mandela, Tim and Lars giving me abuse, The Dead Pets and Starlight Fix.
  • New law your band would introduce?: It would be compulsory for every house in Britain to own the Ramones first album and Life Won't Wait by Rancid, the most uplifting punk album ever made.
  • Anything else we should know?: We're splitting up soon! We wanna go out with a bang and maybe organise a mini tour before we do this, maybe 5 dates in rough pubs in and about Dublin and the country they call Ireland. We love a lot of styles of music and I am going to study the trumpet and cornet at the Royal Northern!
