These photos were taken by the people of Llanrwst in a community photography project run by the Almshouses Museum and Gallery. Imogen Mowday from the Almshouses tells us how it worked.

"Ten disposable cameras were handed out to members of the community and, six months later, we got nine back, full of great photos.

"People were asked to take two photos of something or someone to do with Llanrwst, and then pass it on to another member of the community. We got a real cross-section of those who are involved in the community, from people who live in the town and the countryside, old and young.

"It's a contemporary look at Llanrwst and reflects the character of the town."

Can someone tell me please if the name Peter Fox is on the war memorial? He died in WW1.

Re. Pernant for Rona Winkworth, Wigan.Rona, your father was from Melin y Coed, was he? And wrote the poem Melin y Coed, which Y Mellt put to music in 1971? Would it be possible to get a copy of the words of the poem? The Melin y Coed website would very much like to put them up on their Local Talent page. See this page for contact details.

My parents visited Llanrwst for their honeymoon in 1966. They returned many a year subsequently, and as a result I have many fond childhood memories. From playing on the swings in the park, to feeding peacocks at Gwydir Castle...wonderful!

Graham Cutler, Clayton-le-Woods,Central Lancs
My father George Cutler worked in the area that is now a cafe, he operated machinery that made suede & polished leather. He once buried 'live' ammunition that his son John had taken from a German aircraft shot down in the locality during the War. The site of this burial was the old garden, which is now the car park shown in the photograph!

I viewed this photo whilst visiting family in Canada. I attended Llanrwst Grammar School from 1951 to 1956. The exterior of the building haven't changed much. The photo brought back memories. I'm very grateful to the school teachers of my time there for setting standards and values that I've applied in my work.

It was strange seeing the old jailhouse on page 4 of your photos, as we lived there as a family in the early 1950's. My father was Norman Owen Thomas married to Winifred. Their children Teresa, David, Bernard and myself Christopher all lived in the house at that time, thanks for the great picture, we left the house in approx 1953 moving to Australia in 1955 where we settled in Adelaide, South Australia. My parents sold the house in approx 1979, to my cousin Pauline and her husband John who I believe restored the old building.

It was fascinating to see the pictures of the town since my maternal grandparents grew up in Llanrwst and my grandmother taught at the school around 1900. I am wondering if she taught at what is called the old schoolhouse in the picture? Thank you for posting these pictures.

"Our Town in Pictures", what a lovely idea, and so well done. No 7 of St Grwst Church was of interest to me. I think one of the tombs to the right is that of my ancestors (Owen family} mainly long case clockmakers but later made watches. Examples held by Welsh Folk Museum. The first clockmaker, John Owen's grave is nearer the church.I wish I could find his origin but even Colin Brown ("The Clockmakers of Llanrwst") did not manage it! Thank you for a beautiful show.

My father and Mrs Roberts from the Brewery were the ones who saved the Almshouses from being destroyed. They spent hours and hours researching and getting in touch with the land registry etc. Nowhere have I or my family seen any credit afforded to them. My father was Mr Bob Owen(Pernant).
