I too was intrigued regarding the winged wheel gravestone on the Great Orme. I too thought maybe a motorsport enthusiast. After researching I have found that a winged wheel is a symbol of the holy spirit.

I would like to know more about Beatrice Blore Browne (1887-1921)who is buried in the Great Orme Cemetery under a very distinctive stone, a winged wheel, inscribed,"she feared naught but God". Possibly a lady racing car driver, who met an untimely end? She changed her name by deed poll in 1920,simply adding "Browne" to her name.

In response to Sara near Wrexham, there were six brothers and one sister in the Macmullan family living in Jubilee Street. My father was Tom, known as Tommy Mac. They were a very special family.

Glyn Davies, Billy Mac's used to be Higginbottoms. Billy was a McMullen. There were, I believe, two brothers Jimmy and Billy. Both lived in Jubilee Street.

Does anyone remember Billy Mac's by the traffic lights/Llandudno Station? If only walls could talk, I am sure these could tell the history of Llandudno.

Thank you so much JS and Norman Hughes. We had a lovely meal at Nikki Ips in Deganwy. We would definitely dine there again. Wild Orchid looked lovely on their website but has unfortunately closed. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. It was very much appreciated.

I would greatly appreciate any information about a building called Plas Trevor on Abbey Road. I am trying to find out what this building was in the early 1920s and who were the occupants as I am researching my family tree. I know that there are holiday flats there today and on the 1901 cenus it was occupied by a family.

I owned a home 30 years ago which was torn down and redone. This house was about 120 years old 35 years ago. On the original front door was a metal door knocker with a devil on it and read DEVIL. It also was inscribed with Penrhyn Old Hall and England on the back. I was trying to find any information on this place. I have read that it's a rock joint now, but when did it open? What was it before, etc. I am so interested about whom this belonged and more.
Web team: More information of Penrhyn Old Hall here.

My friend's ancestor was the lighthousekeeper at Great Orme around the 1860s and he has a family memory that a cousin fell from the Orme and died around that time. Would there be any newspapers at Llandudno library to verify this?

Lisa from Wigan: Park House is 10C Mostyn Street. The ground floor used to be a wine and spirit shop called "Westwells", it's now a kitchen shop. The boarding house would have been the rooms above. By 1969 it had become flats but Mrs E Jones was living at the boarding house in 1929. Littlers Buildings is a block - 10C being the end.

I have been told that the Park House Hotel was owned by my great great grandparents, John and Elizabeth Jones. John Morris Jones died in 1916, Elizabeth in 1936 and Park House was mentioned on both their headstone inscriptions. I have been unable to locate any information on Park House, other than on the 1901 census when it appears under Littlers Buildings. I would be grateful for any information.

I read the Save our Scenery debate with interest and have visited the website. Is there a plan or map of where the Gwynt y Mor Wind Farm extends across the Llandudno - Colwyn Bay? The leaflet does not show distance from shoreline. Is there a maritime chart of how the turbines are placed - distances etc?

I was born in Llandudno in 1961 and more precisely in a nursing home on the Great Orme. Does anyone know of the existence of such an establishment and what it was called?

We are trying to find historical information on the Congregational Church Llandudno, where my husband's grandmother was baptized and her parents were married (he being a member of the choir). I just learned here that the original church was on Deganwy Avenue? What happened? Did the congregation move to Seilo? Where would the marriage and birth registers be locted now? Do any pictures exist of the original Congregational Church. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

One morning when it was not yet fully light, I was awakened very rudely by an incredible racket. I charged into the hall half awake. Seeing the grown-ups clustered at the big bay window on the top floor I ran down and joined them. All this time the terrible noise was still going. It was an air battle between Spitfires and some German planes, but if my brother had been there he WOULD have) They came so close to our roof the noise was deafening, all the time furiously machine gunning each other. To our horror a Spitfire was hit and went twistig away crashing into the mo! untain over Penmaenmawr way. We were crying at this of course. That's all I can remember, but would love to know if anyone else can fill in some details.
I also remember running for the lifeboat men when we kids found a mine-all rusty with a broken mooring at the edge of the waves on the North Shore.

Can anyone tell me of the history of a grocery shop at the very end of Mostyn street, at the top of the hill to the Great Orme. I was very young when I was last there in 1954. It was a unique lay-out with steps up to the shop entrance right on the corner, with a pie shaped floor plan. My great aunt Alice lived there, however I have no idea of other names.

Hello David Glyn Jones. My mother's maiden name was Jones. In about 1918, her father, Hugh Jones, purchased a 1908 Commer Omnibus (originally owned by the London & North Western Railway) and ran a bus service between Betws-y-Coed, Penmachno, and Llanwrst, until about 1929. He and my grandmother, Verney Kate (nee Roberts) had 13 children. After living in Penmachno for several years, Hugh Jones and his family moved to Deganwy (near the railway line. They then went to live in Llysfaen.I still have many cousins in North Wales, and they all speak Welsh. My sister Karen was born in Llandudno Hospital. Is it true that this hospital no longer exists?

I know my grandfather Hugh Jones(whom I never knew) was born in a cottage called Bron (y) Berllan on the Great Orme. I believe his parents and perhaps grand parents also lived there. Would anyone know the history of this cottage and it's occupants as they pertain to my Jones family?

Jennie from County Clare: The 1895 Directory for Llandudno lists John Clayton Cab Proprietor at that address. 1911 has Mrs R E Jones apartments. There are also listings for 1914, 1922, 1925 and 1929. RE Jones presumably stands for Roland Eames Jones bought a plot in the municipal cemetery on the Orme. He was buried there on 20/03/1940. Also buried there is Elizabeth Jones buried 06/05/1953. There is a Jane Elizabeth Locker buried in the same plot on 21/02/1947. Mrs E Jones is listed as having apartments in the 1939 Directory. Miss Diana G Jones is listed at the same address for 1957, 1960 and 1969. There might be more information in local newspapers. Please contact Llandudno Library.
