My friend from Wiltshire, I feel frustration! I'm in a similar but not identical position. I'm a 2nd language welsh speaker. Originally from Haverfordwest andbrought up in North Yorks. Not exactly ' calon Y Fro Gymraeg!'. After laerning welsh at uni in Aber I realised how important immersion was to the experience. I married a frenchwoman and we have bilingual french/english spaeking 10 year old twins. they speak french because a) my wike stuck to her guns as only speaking french to them . and b) because we made it our business to take ALL our holidays in France when they were little they soon clocked that, e.g. on campsites, they could integrate better if they had the local tongue. I really wanted my kids to pick up welsh as well and notied that the urge to mix / integrate with the peer group waas stron so that we attended a few Urdd eisteddfodau (including prelims with our friends and their kids at ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen in Bethesda. In summary.

Immersion is the key for me so my advice is. a) get them back to welsh medium environments as regularly as poss. (e.g ypur family back home) b) make sure they get involved with welsh mwedium events, where they are in the minority, in a supportive environment they ill tend to aim at integration (e.g. the Urdd etc) (As diifficult in sunny Wilts as it is in rainy Manc, I would imagine!).
