My friend and I plan to take a day trip to Holyhead while visiting Dublin in November. Is there a place in or near Holyhead where I can rent 4 wheel quads or ATVs for a day?

Where was the French convent in the area? I was recently given a prayer book belonging to my Gran and the inscription reads; French Convent Holyhead 1912, Florence Violet from Rev Mother S.
Web team: Read our history of the Bon Sauveur convent.

I think the Reform Cafe was where the old Woolworth is now.

My aunt Hannah George married Thomas Owen of Anglesey, they had four or five children. Two of the daughters and a son went on to run Soldiers Point Hotel, Holyhead. I would be interested to know anything about the family or hotel. They were probably there late 1940s to 1950s.

John - you might try getting in touch with Councillor Jeff Evans. He organised the event when Cilla came to Holyhead. I remember it well - she was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. I'm sure Jeff would have photos and I am sure if you went on U Tube you would find some footage of the event. Holyhead is great!

My family used to holiday in Holyhead - every year from 1962 - 1971. I can remember the sand pit and paddling pool on Newry beach. Are they still there? My Nan lived on a new (in 63) estate at the foot of Holyhead mountain (north stack?). I think the road was called Wein Faur ... it was something like that. My sister and I played out with all the local children (April, Kim, Llewlyn etc). We watched (and probably got in the way) when they built the primary school on the field at the edge of the estate, and the garages at the back of the houses, and added the storm porches to the back doors ... I can recall a lovely park that we cut through on the way into town or to the beach ... it had a public bowls green - and putting, and maybe even crazy golf! There was a lovely little building where you went and hired your equipment - and to buy an ice cream afterwards. I can't remember very much about the town itself ... except for going every Friday for the main grocery shop. I do recall there was a small supermarket (the coop?) near The County Hotel. There was also a market - held indoors - selling fresh meat and other produce. My Nan used to buy the butter here when we we up, as a treat.
I was fascinated to see the stall holder pat the butter into shape with two big paddle type implements. One of my memories with mixed feelings was blackberry picking. It was nice to be out picking berries with the whole family ... but OUCH! those brambles hurt! And it was then days of boiling fruit and making bramble jelly ... or loads of apple and blackberry pies. What a shame domestic freezers weren't around then.

I am trying to find out the history of the old house that is now in a delapidated state on the corner of Blackbridge/Turkeyshore Road/Llanfaair road in Holyhead.

To John Parry,Cilla definitely came to Holyhead. I was in the sea cadet band at the time and the number of times we had to retake the scene of her arriving on the train and her singing that song! They also had to cancel the conga on the breakwater due to fog. It was because Holyhead had been voted the most depressing town in the UK. Hope this settles the argument.

John Parry, Holyhead.
I am trying to settle an argument with some old Army pals. They maintain that Cilla Black never visited Holyhead, I say she did. I saw her! Part of the TV show Surprise Surprise I think. There were also pics in the local papers. To prove that I am not going completely mad, has anyone got a photo? It was 20-odd years ago though.
