How To Get Your Comments Published

Last updated: 24 August 2006

The 'Your Comments' system is pre-moderated. That is: you post your comments, and if they meet the common-sense House Rules below, they will be posted on the page you commented on. If you want to make a general comment or want us to reply to a comment use the popup form. The BBC may edit your comments, and cannot guarantee that all comments will be published.

About your comments
Keep your contributions civil, tasteful and relevant to the page you are commenting on. We're committed to creating an atmosphere in which friendly and mature comments are posted. Therefore:

  • No flaming. Sarcastic, unlawful, untruthful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially offensive or otherwise objectionable material is not acceptable.
  • Never reveal any personal information about yourself (e.g. your telephone number, postal address or email address).
  • No advertising or spamming.
  • Comments containing languages other than English may be removed. Comments in Welsh are welcomed on our sister service Cymru'r Byd or can be included here if they are accompanied by an English translation for the convenience of other users.
  • Impersonating someone else is unacceptable, as is adopting an inappropriate name (one that is vulgar, offensive, etc.)
  • Comments should be true and an expression of personal, honestly held opinion. Avoid non-specific or exaggerated comments that could be seen as damaging to businesses or individuals.
  • We're sorry, but you may not include specific URLs (web site addresses) in your comments. You can suggest a link for our webguide using the popup form.
  • Please keep your comments to a reasonable length - under 100 words.

About the law

  • You may not post any defamatory or illegal material of any nature on the comments system. Posting a message with the intention of committing an illegal act is strictly prohibited.
  • You agree to only post materials to which you have the copyright or other permission to distribute electronically. You may not violate, plagiarise, or infringe on the rights of third parties including copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy, personal, publicity, or proprietary rights.

About your privacy

  • The BBC will not publish or provide your email address to anyone. The BBC complies with the 1998 Data Protection Act.

If you're under age 18

  • Never reveal any personal information about yourself (for example: your telephone number, mobile phone number, school name, home address or email address).

If you fail to abide by these House Rules and/or the bbc.co.uk Terms and Conditions, your comment will not be approved. The BBC reserves the right to delete any posting, at any time, for any reason.
