Fruit Smoothie

Last updated: 27 November 2005

(Serves 2-4)
£: 25p-50p - depending on how big your servings
Time to make - really quick!

Ingredients
300ml (1/2 pint) semi-skimmed milk
1 small carton low fat fruit yoghurt
1 banana
handful of strawberries

non-dairy version
300ml (1/2 pint) orange juice
1 banana
handful of another fruit (kiwi, strawberries etc)

Method
Blend all ingredients together for about 30 seconds - if all fruit not blended, blend for a little longer.

Tips
  • Smoothies are a good way of getting some of your five portions of fruit and veg a day. Children also like making and drinking them. Banana is good to include as it thickens the smoothie, but you can use lots of other types of fruit - berries, kiwis, pineapples, peaches, pears, nectarines etc.

  • You can use canned and frozen fruit too - it doesn't have to be fresh. If you are using canned, drain the fruit first unless it's in a fruit juice, in which case you might like to add that too.

  • For the non-dairy version, you can experiment using different fruit juices - apple, pineapple, cranberry etc. The fruit juice counts towards one of your portions of fruit and veg.

  • Food & Drink - tasty treats
