Talybont gets my vote

Football

Last updated: 07 April 2008

Leigh Mason from Ysgol Ardudwy weighs up the pros and cons of leaving Harlech for Tal y Bont.

Tal y Bont is a nice little village with woods where you can walk to Dyffryn or to Barmouth. At the bottom of Tal y Bont, there's a beach, two arcades, a pub, two ice cream parlours, a fish and chips shop and a bingo place that is joined to one of the arcades.

Also just before where all this is, there's at least three huge caravan parks, one of which stretches along the beach all the way to Llanaber.

I wouldn't say Tal y Bont is boring although in the village itself there's not many shops apart from the post office. The post office does sell frozen food but there's not enough. The closest shop where they do sell frozen food and meat is Spar in Dyffryn. My mum doesn't always go there; instead she either goes to Tesco in Porthmadog or to Asda in Llandudno.

There are loads of old folks that live in the estates. They always complain about me throwing a rugby ball over to their front gardens. These old folks are always strict.

I used to live in Harlech with my dad but I wanted to live with my mum in Tal y Bont, not just because of personal reasons. The surroundings in Tal y Bont are nice, full of fields and woods. There's less trouble there. The only thing that I like in Harlech that is not in Tal y Bont is the footy pitch. When I lived there I used to always go there and play footy with my mates.

The only two things I would like in Tal y Bont is more shops which sell frozen foods so that we don't have to travel far away and of course a footy pitch near the beach so we can play football in the sun, especially in the summer.

As a kid in the early 70s we used to holiday in Dyffryn caravan park. Brilliant place, amazing beach, can remember my brother and I thinking how daring we were jumping off the top of the massive dunes and flying through the air to land on the slopes. Remember the chip shop we used to walk up their with our dad of an evening (did they sell rissoles and have a weird and wonderful hot drink machine?). May have been another holiday though. Have recently been back touring area on motorbike still one of the most beautiful place in the world.
