My name is Peri, I am 11 years old, my mum and dad have an allotment in Maesgeirchen, Bangor, and I help out.

I mainly enjoy looking after the seedlings in the spring. Last year I grew strawberries from seed and I gave them away to other plotholders. I also have a flowerbed on my parents' allotment, some pumpkins and beans.

One of the first public meetings about Bangor's Maesgeirchen estate having allotments was held in November 2003 to discuss a survey among residents and community groups.

A site at Tan y Bryn playing fields was discussed, as was funding. Grants bids were made after a feasibility study.

The allotments were funded and supported by Gwynedd Council, Environment Wales, National Lottery, Enfys-Green Spaces, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and other green space funders.

Hard work was done by Communities First and the Maesgeirchen Allotment Association and community.

Work started on the allotments, putting up a fence and draining the ground, in 2005. Those interested in having an allotment went to various meetings.

Community groups, Brownies, Ysgol Glan Cegin and Maesgeirchen Environment Group (MEG) requested raised beds, and the allotments were officially opened on June 1, 2006, by Betty Williams MP.

There are 11 allotments and nine raised beds. Some of the plotholders' children have raised beds.

I also do a monthly magazine which I give out at the monthly meeting. I take pictures and write about what's going on. I have pictures of the allotments from when they were just a field!

We are planning an open day next year in June or July - everyone welcome.

We'd love to see more photos of the allotments and their gardeners. You can email them to wales.northwest@bbc.co.uk.

Hi, I moved to bangor a year ago and looking for an allotment as me and my family grow vegs for us and friends at home but the space is limited. Does anyone know about getting an allotment in Bangor?

Oh, how I love these allotments! Such a success story, it makes me want to write about it in my upcoming autobiography - for I am a very famous singer, you know, performing in all of the clubs and pubs of Aberdyfi - and I hope to be putting something about these allotments in! A pat on the back and jolly well done to you all!

I am the coordinator of a new EU funded home composting initiative launched in Gwynedd. We are willing to give full instruction and provide free compost bins and caddies for those taking part in the scheme.
