Women's football

Llandudno Women's football team

Last updated: 27 November 2005

With the coming of the North Wales Women's League, women's football has really taken off in this area and with the up-and-coming talent of the girls, the sky's the limit.

Karen Williams from Anglesey is a football development officer - and a manager of Llangefni Women's Club:

"I always liked playing football with my granddad and at David Hughes secondary school I had a great PE teacher, Susan Bracegirdle, who set up a girls' team. I then played for Bangor before moving to Llangefni a few years ago."

Most teams in NW Wales play in the North Wales Women's League. Those teams include:

Kinmel Bay: Kinmel Bay Leisure Centre, Y Morfa, Cader Avenue, Kinmel Bay, Colwyn Bay, LL15 5HU

Llandudno Junction: Hotpoint Social Club, Victoria Drive, Llandudno Junction, LL31 9PG

Pwllheli: Pwllheli Leisure Centre, Recreation Creation, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, LL53 5PF

Two of NW Wales' teams, Llangefni, based at the town's football club, and Caernarfon, based at the Oval (formerly Bangor) play in the North West League against English teams.

Women's games usually take place on a Sunday - because the pitches aren't available on Saturdays!

I'm looking to join a women's team and don't know where to start. I used to play footy when I was younger, but looking at getting my coaching certificates as well as playing. Who do I talk to about Llangefni Ladies?
