Record-breakers, Mynydd Isa

Mark Roberts of Buckley Town

Last updated: 24 January 2009

Mynydd Isa created a club record by battering Penryncoch 10-1.

Penrhyn Coch have had a real bad week; only days earlier, the league management committee had docked them three points for a rule infringement. They were still in the game at half time though when Chris Williams reduced the deficit after Stuart Woods and Dean Hardstaffe had earlier been on target.

Sadly it appeared that the visitors gave up the ghost as Isa went goal crazy. Man of the match Neil Wynne converted a second half hat-trick, new signing Alan Dawson, Paul Connolly, Anthony Williams and Barry Calder with a double salvo cemented the win.

Bala Town continue to dominate the proceedings in the Cymru Alliance but it was not exactly vintage Bala as they struggled to topple Glantraeth who were under new management in the shape of Emyr Rowlands. The best chances of a goal-less first half fell to Glantraeth's Kevin Roberts, who twice went close. But Bala are made of true grit and they got their breakthrough new signing Tommy Mutton on 61 minutes and the goal proved decisive.

Flint Town United pressed the self destruct button and they only have themselves to blame for dropping two points against Holyhead Hotspur after taking a commanding 3-0 lead. Sean Beck broke their deadlock after just one minute with a close range headed goal from an Alan Hooley corner. Paul Williams had a simple chance to double their account moments later after a John Davies shot had been blocked and he pounced from close range.

Williams doubled his personal tally, getting on the end of a Jack Abrahams free-kick to take a three goal cushion into the break. What happened in the second half defies logic if you were a Flint fan; Spurs were a completely different team. Kenleigh Owen caught Flint napping heading home unmarked from close range seconds after the restart. Poor defending allowed Marc Evans to peg another goal back and the goal gave the visitors a huge lift as Flint's confidence physically drained. Gareth Caughter squared the match with 15 minutes left and in fact they should have gone on to win this game but for two misses by sub Ian Williams.

The local derby at Stansty Park between LEX XI and Buckley Town ended in total deadlock and it was a game neither side deserved to win to be truthful. Buckley opened the scoring through Mark Roberts (pictured) in the 22nd minute following some fine probing by Jamie McNeil and Jamie Rogers who delivered the final ball. LEX's response came on the half hour mark when a 25 yard strike from James Price cannoned off Andy Kendrick to wrong foot Buckley keeper Lewie Macken.

Eight goals were shared between Denbigh Town and Mold Alex. Denbigh twice squandered the lead carved out by Ian Evans and Mark Orme and in the end they had to reply on an injury time leveller from Dave Edwards to salvage a point. Stuart Vernon made it 3-1 at the break but Mold fought back well and deserved their draw, with Mark Roberts convertiing two penalties, Darren Pritchard and Dave Pitson.

Gresford Athletic were turned over at Llanfairpwll and to make matters worse they had influential midfielder Gareth Williams dismissed after receiving two yellow cards. The hosts struck in the 26th minute through Dave Jones following a lapse in the Gresford defence and then with Gresford chasing the game with a man short, Richard Owen put the game beyond doubt.

Guilsfield had no answer to inform Llangefni Town who stay level on points at the top with Bala. Mike Edwards bagged a goal in each half with Darren Thomas and Mel McGuiness punishing some poor defending.

Basement side Llandyrnog United had their 'tails' up at the break when they were leading Llandudno by the odd goal scored by Sion Roberts in the 28th minute. It was a false dawn however as Chris Boulton netted twice in a purple patch around the hour mark for Llandudno and any thoughts of a comeback ended when United conceded a 71st minute own goal.
