Despite there being no goals there was plenty of drama. With 3 minutes gone, Isa keeper Stuart Macintosh clipped the heels of Alec Stacey but he his resulting spotkick was saved. Bala then had Dave Cunnah dismissed for use of foul and abusive language. Isa failed to make the most of having that extra man but player parity was restored on the hour mark when Barry Calder went for violent conduct.
Second placed Holyhead Hotspur failed to make up any ground however as they were held to a scoreless draw at home by Ruthin Town, who thoroughly deserved their point. It was a game Spurs should have won based on chances; Lee Webber had a first half header cleared off the line and at the opposite end, Liam Shanahan had to come to the hosts' rescue with a fine save from Wil Roberts. Spurs should have wrapped up the points with Webber, Ian Williams, Mike Evans and Curt Williams all failing when they might have done better.
Buckley Town managed to recover from a dreadful start at their home game at the Globe with Llanfairpwll. Manager Simon Sedgwick was quite scathing about the schoolboy defending which saw Gethin Wakeham break the deadlock and then Sean Dodd steer the ball past his own keeper Louis Macken.
Buckley upped the tempo in the second half and deservedly fought back to take a point through John Dowridge and sub Tommy Leonard who rescued a point in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.
Gresford Athletic failed to deliver the kind of performance which has seen them win their last two games and they narrowly went down 2-1 at home to Flint Town United. All looked well when Huw Jones with an opportunist shot from distance provided them with a 3rd minute lead and Gresford went in at the break with their noses in front.
Flint boss Paul Davies was first to concede his side were most fortunate to get back on level terms. The referee failed to award Gresford what looked like a clear freekick following a foul on Danny Purdie and Robbie Chesters took advantage to equalise. The goal proved to be a set back and Gresford never recovered and The Silkmen bagged a deserved winner in the end through Shaun Beck with 20 minutes remaining. (Beck and Chesters both pictured)
Mold Alex had a right drubbing as they were floored 8-1 at Alyn Park against Llangefni Town. It really was one way traffic with Kevin Roberts (2), Warren Gibbs, Danny Thomas, Mel McGuiness (2), Iwan Jones and Sion Parry sharing four goals in each half. Mold's lone consolation goal came from Terry Pughe.
Manager Danny Seamarks commented, "Don't laugh at me when I tell you we held our own for large parts of this encounter and the score fails to recognise our contribution'.
Llandyrnog United are still to get off the mark as they were beaten 2-0 by LEX XI. The hosts did have the better of the early exchanges without troubling LEX keeper Dan Billington. LEX broke the deadlock following a quick throw in from Gavin Maloney to Khosrow Hematinfar and his cross from the left was met by an exquisite volley from Simon Smith from 12 yards out which flew into the top corner before keeper Arwel Hughes could move.
Both sides huffed and puffed without finding the key to unlock two mean defences with Paul Griffiths and Nathan Evans in the LEX defence outstanding. The hosts had Adam Lloyd and Mike Sharples in top form.
The pattern of the second half was similar with plenty of action between the penalty box but with no cutting edge. Lex had efforts from distance by the energetic Simon Smith while Endaf Jones had two good chances that lacked power and direction for the home team. As the game progressed Dyrny, who have yet to win this term through caution to the wind and as so often left big gaps at the back. Six minutes from time a long ball from the half way line on the right found Michael Griffiths in space on the edge of the box; he advanced and stroked the ball to the corner of the net to make the game safe and gain the three points for the visitors.
Denbigh Town, who up until Saturday had an impeccable home record but they were stunned 2-0 by Llandudno who captured both of their goals in a high tempo first half through Lee Thomas and Chris Boulton.
In the day's other action, Glantraeth at last broke their duck to clinch a 2-1 success at Guilsfield. Many would argue this success is long overdue but a battling second half display after another three points looked to be going down the drain saw them rescue a 1-0 deficit and return to Ynys Mon with maximum points.
Guilsfield did take a deserved lead through Jamie Evans as he beat Marc Newbould from just inside the box. In a 'muck or nettles' finish, the visitors levelled through Chris Saxon and in a late late sortie, Corey Sinnott rounded Dave Littleford to net the winner.
