Ruthin Town go great guns

Graham Ausen

Last updated: 20 December 2008

Llangefni Town continue to put pressure on the leaders Bala Town who had a blank date, with their 6-0 whitewash over Llandyrnog.

The visitors had their backs to the wall from almost the off when player manager Neil Davies was sent off. Llangefni then took a 19th minute lead through a Kevin Roberts penalty. They went into the break with a two goal cushion courtesy of a splendid goal by Graham Austin(pictured). 'Dyrny collapsed in a one way second half; Darren Thomas weighed in with a double salvo and Mel McGuiness and Iwan Jones sealed the success.

Holyhead Hotspur will consider themselves a trifle fortunate to bag maximum points at Mynydd Isa, who deserved something from this Yuletide epic. Ian Williams broke the deadlock in the 46th minute and the goal proved decisive. The win was costly with Spurs having Tom Jones dismissed, thoughlate on player parity was restored when Isa's Sam Pugh was also sent off. Neil Wynne twice went close to rescuing something from the game for Isa but the visitors held on.

Mold Alex looked doomed after Penrhyncoch roared into an early lead with strikes from Tim Turner and Sion Meredith. But The Alex refused to throw in the towel and a goal in each half from Mike Roberts and Dave Pitson put them back in with a shout. At the death however, Mark Gornal snatched a last gasp winner.

Ruthin Town are going great guns under Adie Jones. A last minute goal from Liam Jones enabled them to topple Buckley Town 3-2. Gwydion Ifan and Mike Garrod from the penalty spot put Ruthin in command but in a spirited fight-back, Jamie Rogers pegged a goal back and then Joe Garner beat a static Simon Williams with a superbly struck volley. With a last throw of the dice, Jones secured that late winner for Ruthin.

Guilsfield do appear to be the league's Jekyll and Hyde side and after doing so well on their travels but they slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to LEX XI. The visitors had a dream start when Timmy Manual powerfully headed home a 2nd minute corner. Leighton Roberts doubled the LEX account and then Mike Latham fluffed a penalty chance prior to Steve Jones getting a very late consolation goal.

Gresford Athletic boss Sam Ainge picked up his manager of the month award for November prior to their game at Llandudno. His side failed to find any real rhythm which made them quite invincible last month and it was a game Llandudno should have won in a canter. It was somewhat against the run of play when Danny Hughes gave Gresford an 84th minute lead but Llandudno were able to rescue a point when Chris Boulton converted a highly controversial free-kick.

A superbly struck volley from Kevin Roberts late in the game failed to enable Glan to break their duck and they are looking to end the year still without a win on the board. Denbigh took a 17th minute lead through Gareth Martin and doubled their account on the stroke of half-time through Chris Williams.

The game between Llanfairpwll and Flint Town United failed to go ahead due to a waterlogged pitch.
