Honours were even in a first half which Bala just shaded through an Alec Stacey penalty following a foul on Neil Fisher. Fisher doubled the Bala tally, bating the offside trap and lobbed the keeper. After that Isa collapsed like a pack of cards and their boss Gareth Thomas admitted, "at times in the second point it was a case of boys against men. The only bright spots were an effort by Ben Powell that was disallowed and the impressive form of Ben Jones who was making his debut."
Bala bagged a third goal on the hour with a fine individual goal from Stacey; Warren Duckett scored with a thumping header from a Mark Griffiths cross and to round off a fine night, sub Mark Griffiths completed their nap hand right at the death.
The day's big surprise was the whitewash LEX XI gave Holyhead Hotspur. Some might think LEX took a gamble when they appointed Colin Parry as manager last month as his CV did not include any mention of Cymru Alliance football. How wrong could those doubters have been as in refreshing style - LEX did not only send their opponents crashing, but beat them into submission. The scoreline might even have been double the 5-0 drubbing that it was. What was quite amazing about the success was the fact eight of the starting eleven were making their debuts and had never played at Cymru Alliance level before.
Keiran Jones (pictured) was their match winning hero and he secured the match ball after netting a first half hat-trick. Michael Halley grabbed the best goal of the afternoon with a stunning drive and from 20 yards out Nathan Evans cemented the victory 6 minutes later.
The quickest and first goal of the season came at Flint Town United who suffered a 5-1 thrashing by Llanfair PG. It was Kelvin Fraser who broke the deadlock for the visitors with just seconds on the clock. Schoolboy defending saw Dave Jones and Fraser punish the Silkmen further as they trailed 3-0 with 15 minutes gone. Phil Lloyd hit back after being set up by Paul Davies but visitors won this opener in a canter with Ian Burgess and Richard Owen making up their nap hand.
New boys Mold Alex failed to get off the mark, they were beaten 1-0 by Penrhyncoch who grabbed the only goal of the game in the 56th minute through Mark Gornell.
Denbigh Town versus Glantraeth ended goal-less and it failed to live up to its top billing. But with Glantraeth being without several regulars through suspension and holiday commitments manager Kev Hughes would be happier with the outcome more than Denbigh chief Tim Dyer. Both sides had chances to win this classic; Kevin Leach on his Denbigh debut twice went close and at the opposite end Gerallt Jones and Corey Sinnott spurned good efforts.
Buckley were worthy 2-1 winners at Guilsfield and making an immediate impact after being snapped up from Llandyrnog was Mark Roberts steered Buckley into an interval lead with a fine individual goal. The other side of the break saw Alan Dawson double the Buckley lead with a long range shot and although Dylan Ellis hit back around the hour mark, Buckley hung on for the points.
A lot more was expected of Llandudno but they flopped to a 2-1 defeat against a hard-working Ruthin Town who took a 7th minute lead through Mike Garrod, though Llandudno squared things on the stroke of half time. Ruthin have snapped up a real match winner of a signing in Kevin Breeze and he came up trumps and grabbed a 75th minute winning goal.
In the only other game Llangefni Town's return to the Cymru Alliance was not exactly pretty stuff at a wet and windy Llandyrnog. Their winning goal in a 1-0 success came in stoppage time and in controversial fashion given by referee John Spender. Experienced overlapping full back Lee Dixon fell in the box from an innocuous challenge from Danny Roberts and Kevin Lloyd, after protracted protests, finally dispatched the penalty to win the game right at the death.
