Their 1-1 draw at Denbigh Town could effectively end their title dreams as they are still a point behind their rivals but have played three games more. They took a 46th minute lead through Darren Thomas, so a late equaliser from Denbigh's Darren Thomas could prove costly.
The local derby at Alyn Park turned out to be something of a damp squib and the clash ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Following a barren opening half, Mike Roberts steered Mold into a 50th minute lead but a deserved leveller right at the death from Tony Cann salvaged a point for the Silkmen.
Gresford Athletic managed a rare double over a Cymru Alliance side, the defeated visitors Glantraeth, by the exact same scoreline to when they last met in November. Glantraeth upped their work rate in the second half and pressing for the equaliser, Josh Russell robbed Jarl Glynn to race free and fire under the body of the advancing Marc Newbould. Almost from the restart,. Glantraeth reduced the deficit when Kevin Todd failed to clear, Anthony Hughes crossed for James Burgess to beat Gareth Rowland in the Gresford goal with the help of Wyn Jones's knee.
There was still plenty of drama to come; a text book save by Newbould from Gareth Williams prevented a scoring opportunity and with minutes left, a late tackle on Anthony Hughes by Hugh Jones earned him a yellow card when the visitors felt this was too lenient for denying a scoring opportunity.
Llanfairpwll were sunk 4-1 in their own back yard by Llandudno as their dismal season continues. There were quite a few surprises in the NEWFA Challenge Cup and half of the ties went in favour of the under-dogs. The best example being at Stansty Park where cup holders Bala Town took a shock exit and were bombed out 4-3 by LEX XI who were controlling this encounter at one stage 4-1.
Craig Hughes opened up the LEX account from a corner but Bala were able to hit back through Tommy Mutton. Bala keeled and LEX went goal crazy, Gareth Rhys Roberts and Mike Latham with a double salvo opened a three goal cushion. Bala did then rally and hit back through two goals from Owain Roberts but LEX stood firm after that point.
Buckley were shell-shocked by Rhos Aelwyd who defeated their Cymru Alliance hosts with a spirited 3-2 victory. Mark Roberts had his opener wiped out by Jamie Jones and then in a second half which Rhos turned on the style, Matt Holmes and Ben Jones had Buckley in a spin. An unfortunate own goal by Gary Harris gave Buckley a flicker of hope but Aelwyd were worthy winners.
Mynydd Isa booked a quarter final berth without really having to break sweat. They took the lead through Stuart Wood sat back and added to their tally midway through the second period when Neil Wynne scored a splendid solo goal. In the all Cymru Alliance clash in the North Wales Challenge Cup, Holyhead Hotspur claimed the scalp of Llandyrnog United. Curt Williams was star of the show and his all round excellent contribution was rewarded with a hat-trick. He broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with the Dyrny defence stretched. Kenleigh Owen was the architect behind his second goal with a pin point pass.
Tom Sharples, who had earlier been denied by the post, reduced the deficit but before any fight-back could be mounted, Williams cemented the win by completing his hat-trick.
