You might have got used to seeing a pretty church, trying the door and finding it firmly locked. But some are bucking the trend.
BBC Radio Wales series All Thing Considered looked at some churches making the effort to welcome the public outside regular services.
St Tegai Church in Llandegai is happy for visitors to enjoy its architecture and carvings, whilst Penrallt Baptist Church in Upper Bangor sees itself as more of a centre for the community.
As a child, the Rev Lynn Perry was used to visiting churches when she was on holiday, so she didn't want her own church to stay locked up. She took presenter Roy Jenkins on a tour of St Tegai, open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Lay reader Prof Ian Russell tells Roy about the community's support in keeping the church open and Lynn explains how they keep the building safe.

"In a modern day and age, the chapel can still be the centre of the community," says the Rev Peter Cousins at Penrallt Baptist Church. Which is why he's renovated his church to welcome belly-dancers, Welsh learners and much more.
