The essentials

The Vaynol Estate's main Caernarfon Road entrance

Last updated: 06 August 2008

All the practical details you need to attend the Faenol Festival, including ticket booking and prices, how to get there and where to stay.

Getting there

The festival is clearly signposted from the A55 near Bangor, whether you are travelling from Anglesey or the mainland. There are two access points to the estate - through Parc Menai and from Caernarfon Road.

The nearest train and bus stations are in Bangor where taxis are available to the festival site. Shuttle buses from Bangor and Caernarfon may be organised by Silver Star.

Booking
Tickets are available from:
Venue Cymru, Llandudno, 01492 872000
Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor, 01248 351708
Silver Star Holidays, Castle Square, Caernarfon, 01286 671771
You can buy promenader tickets (take your own chair or rug) or numbered seats for individual nights or a ticket for the whole festival.

Thanks to a deal with the National Trust for 2008, there's two-for-the-price-of-one admission to Plas Newydd, just across the Menai Strait on Anglesey, if you can show two used adult tickets to the festival.

I think the toilet facilities are dreadful. They need plenty more toilets to accommodate the thousands who attend. By the end of Friday night they are absolutely disgusting. In 2008 there were even less than previous years.

Could you let us know asap please whether the festival is going ahead? My daughter and I came last year for the first time and wished we had stayed for the weekend. We were planning to do so this year if it goes ahead.
Web team: An announcement is expected soon. It'll be on the website as soon as we hear anything.

Has anyone an idea whether there is a Faenol Festival this year?
Web team: Bryn Terfel said in a recent interview on BBC Radio 3 that there was a questionmark over the 2009 festival, but no definite decision has been made yet.

We had a great time friday night, and really enjoyed Hope and Boyzone were fantastic!! We were a bit disapointed that there was no one there to open and close the evening just the two bands and that's it, and as it was my first time i wasn't aware that there is usually fireworks, i was expecting to see Bryn just to open the evening, but the bands were great and a lot of staff about made it a well organised event. Parking fields were a bit muddy from all the recent rain, would not like to try and get out of them by Monday night!

Just watched Bryn on TV. Marvelous. Want to make contact and book for next year. Reading the comments. Seems difficult to get to, even the reference above - website www.brynfest.com(see link right) there is no link right for this website!

I have just attended the festival with friends and in my experience of concerts locally and abroad it was without doubt the best open-air festival I have ever had the privilege to attend, from the staging and the lighting, to the organisation and the programming. It was the first time I have been to Faenol and I am already booking the hotel for next year as our many of my friends.Bryn Terfel is unquestionably one of the greatest bass-baritones world and his performance on Saturday evening was absolutely breathtaking - a world class concert in our own backyard! His choice of guests was superb. I will definitely be looking out for CDs and DVDs of all of the artists who appeared on the opera evening.

This is the first time in five years that we haven't managed to get up a party of at least 12 friends to go to one or even two of the festival nights. We won't be going this year either. The main reason given by everyone is the nightmare of car parking, and having to wait one to one and a half hours to get out after the show. I realise that the root of the problem is the two long, narrow access roads so why not disperse some of the car parks further afield and run shuttle buses? I'm sure most people would prefer that and maybe pay a little extra. Then again, how do you get all the picnic tables and food on a bus? Maybe a better access road is the answer.

A very nice event, safe and friendly. Excellent performances. The car parks were very well cleared I thought compared to other events I have been to. If you think waiting in a queue is bad here try some of the other festivals like V or Glastonbury and you will know what queues are. A top event well recommended, and by those who keep going year on year this can be seen. Buy tickets early, they sell out every year.
