Criccieth's the best
Alec Ford, formerly of Stoke on Trent, explains why he made Criccieth his home and how he got to grips with speaking Welsh.
"My wife and I had been coming to Criccieth for years, and we really fell in love with the place. I've got some Welsh blood in me and it must have been stirred up by Criccieth!
It's wonderful coming to this area - it's so different. For instance, at night, it isn't noisy. We used to live on a road where the traffic never stopped but here if a car goes past in the night it's unusual almost.
The people are also so warm - we've been tremendously well accepted and received into the community. It's wonderful to walk to the shops and take an hour because folks want to stop you and chat.
I've also learnt Welsh. I went to Bank Place, Porthmadog to start learning and I'm able to practise it every day here. People in the shops know we're learning and they accommodate us - they put up with us!"

I have not missed an annual holiday in Criccieth for 40 years and since retiring spend the whole summer there. It would take pages to describe its unique qualities. Mainly it is unspoilt. It has more quality places to eat than anywhere else in Wales. Its natural beauty makes it unique.

My family have been holidaying in or near Criccieth for about 25 years and still love it as much. May it never change. The fish and chips from the shop near to the castle are superb and Cadwalladers ice cream makes the perfect pud. Can't wait to visit next time.
