Richard Moss from Holmes Chapel in Cheshire was so impressed with Plas Mawr when he visited, he sent us all these photos. The Elizabethan townhouse, built by Richard Wynn, has been restored in recent years by Welsh monuments body CADW and is thought to be one of the best-preserved in Britain.

I visited Plas Mawr last week and both myself and my husband felt the energy in the furnished attic room. We've had this experience many times at numerous properties. It's like a field of pins & needles. I got the name Margaret. Only when I got home and read the guidebook did I find that the maid was called Margaret and may have inhabited that room. Spooky!

Quite surprised by the comments about the attic room at Plas Mawr. I work at Plas Mawr and that room often makes me feel uncomfortable when I lock up, had a few odd experiences there, and I'm not a beleiver in ghosts. But with people around Plas Mawr is a treat, the best restored house I am aware of. Well worth a visit.

I went to the plas mawr on my week long stay in wales. I didnt feel very uncomfortuble in the attic, I found it OK, however i got a strange feeling in the gardens, i don't know why this was as there was many other people out there with us. However in the attic there was only us, (me and a couple of family members) and there were some squeaks coming from the floorboards, also in one of the bed rooms there was a odd rustling sound.

I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody as its a very enjoyable day out to remember.

We visited Plas Mawr yesterday (13th April 2008)which was my second visit, and my seven year old daughters first visit. I too have not been since restoration took place and was delighted with the results. The rooms look superb, as do the outer walls and garden area. My daughter said it was the best thing about our brief break in Wales! - When I first visited my mother and I heard footsteps above us when there was no one in the house but us. (the caretaker unlocked for us, and said there was no one else in the house)If you would like more details of our experience, please let me kn! ow.

During the late 70s I was a serving Police officer stationed in Conwy. On one particular morning, I was stopped in the street by the caretaker from Plas Mawr, in a somewhat state of shock. He ushered me into the house and up to the attic room, where he said he had just unlocked (bolts on the outside) and pointed to the wooden floor to show me what he saw when he opened up, and there on the dry dusty floor I saw fading wet footprints leading across the floor and ending at a stone wall at the far end. as we stood there the footprints dried and disappeared as we watched. Scary.

Recently revisited Plas Mawr after many years and was astounded at the renovation that had been done. We had an excellent tour and I learnt so much. The Elizabethan era was a fascinating time and I was really interested in all the facts we were given about the lifestyle then. Also, I had never realised that Plas Mawr had been used as a tenement in Victorian times. Absolutely wonderful tour - to be repeated soon! Would love to spend a night there.

I have visited Plas Mawr many times over the years before it was restored but have never felt anything strange about it. There was a photo of the 'ghost' standing next to a spinning wheel in the allegedly haunted room.

I also visited Plas Mawr in August '06 and felt exactly the same as Rebecca. The furnished attic room felt very different from the other rooms. Very spooky. Maybe because it's darker and furnished? Not sure but I didn't like it! Worth visiting though - fantastic place.

Visited Plas Mawr in Aug 06, beautifully restored house.....however one room there had an almost uncomfortable feel to it - that room was the re-furnished attic room. I didn't like this room at all. I felt fine visiting all other rooms except this one. It wasn't welcoming at all, cannot explain why.
