An acquaintance of mine had a beautiful mirror given to her by a relative who bought it from a gentleman who makes them in Betws y Coed. Can anybody give me any information regarding this gentleman & how I could contact him?

I am writing a WWI novel and the main character is from Wales. Some of the story happens in Betws-y-Coed in late 1914, very early 1915 (winter). I'd like to know as much as possible about hospitals, where young women might have worked, train stations, maps, bed and breakfasts, local tourism, the weather at that time, what the town provided etc. Any information or pointers would be appreciated.

Cassie from Hertfordshire: The Swallow Falls Hotel was owned and run by david Meredith and his wife Anne at the turn of the century. They had several children, one of which was Catherine. They are buried in St Michael's I belive. David and Anne were my great grandparents.

In response to R Gethings, Australia, There is a lot of information on the internet, but the local history group in Dolwyddelan may be able to fill in more detail, and perhaps put you in touch with Owen Gethin Jones's family.

In response to Madeline in Stafford: I believe Bod Gethin was one of the terraced cottages at the bottom of the drive up to Tyddyn Gethin (home of Owen Gethin Jones - my great, great grandfather). I think it was part of Gethin's farm, and his grandson, Robert Vincent (b.1890 and d.1954), would have lived there for years - he kept the newsagent's shop in Penmachno.

In response to Wil Bach, Nefyn: Gethin's Bridge was built by my great, great grandfather, Owen Gethin Jones in 1879. Some interesting details can be found on the Snowdonia National Park website, where it is described as a listed building in the Dolwyddelan community.

I am trying to trace my grandfather's natural father. His mother was a Catherine Jones who I think worked at the Swallow Falls Hotel around the turn of the century. Does anyone know the name of the family who owned the hotel at that time? Was it the Patterson family?

Me and my wife regularly visit north wales. we love going to betws-y-coed, but could you tell us why bikers were stopped from parking near the railway station as we used to love seeing them. was it because of a mindless individual going too fast and causing an accident?

I would like to know who owned Bod Gethin in Penmachno in 1914, my father was born in this house but I am not aware of any family connections.

To Jen from Betws-y-Coed. Being located directly behind Bont Gethin, maybe there is a link to Owen Gethin Jones? I'm sure I've read somewhere (maybe a local history/tales book - can't remember) that a mysterious dark lady has been seen wandering the grounds.
