Kayo's music

Kayo Konno from Japan only came to Bangor to learn English, but Wales has given her a real taste for music instead.
Hear Kayo singing Dafydd y Garreg Wen
I'm from Northern Japan and I came to Bangor straight from school to learn English as I was going to Dublin to do medicine, but I've changed my mind. I now want to study music!
I was in a choir at high school, but wasn't that serious about it. But I joined Bangor Community Choir and loved it - it's a great way to get to know people and practise English. Then I sang at a charity concert at Cochwillan Old Hall, where I live, and it was fantastic. The hall is about 600 years old and it's an amazing house to live in - very big and very old!
I think the people are lovely, very warm and welcoming. I love being here. It's a great place to learn English and there are Chinese and Japanese societies, so there's plenty of support.
I go back to Japan in the summer and it's so different. The people here are different, a bit more free. I like that, you can get anything you want in Japan, of course, but the customs are very different. I prefer to live in Britain I think.
