Following last year's huge success of Wa!Bala, we as organisers are determined to build on it and establish the event as one of Wales' most popular home-grown festivals.
We have good local support with hands-on help in setting up the event, which is key to the organisation. We received very positive feedback from far afield regarding both the set-up and the entertainment.
We are a small group of organisers working closely with Antur Penllyn and the comunity. This year the preparations and advertising are in place early, with a very promising vibrant line-up that will surely attract a wide audience to.
Last year it was good to welcome so many visitors who came along to enjoy our culture and the Welsh ambience. This year we aim to attract even more to enjoy Bala at it best.
Wa!Bala 2006 is located on the Green car park. The stage will be 45ft x 17ft within a massive 50ft x 180ft marquee, so it will be possible to stage the event even in bad weather. The whole site - marquee, bar, children's village and the large open-air area - will be controlled and enclosed by security fencing. We also have camping and parking facilities run by the local cricket club. How's that?
Friday September 15
Our headlining group is the ever-popular Bryn Fôn and band, who appeal to all ages. We also have Daniel Lloyd and Mr Pinc who have developed into a very promising band, staging a very good performance in Sesiwn Fawr. Bala band Smooth Roscow are a fusion of very talented musicians who get the crowd going with their brilliant cover songs. Another local band will be Salero from Machynlleth, who also made a very good appearance in Sesiwn Fawr.
Tickets are £10.
Saturday September 16
Due to the large number of young families that came along in 2005, we have arranged entertainment for chilldren between 1pm and 5pm, with bouncy castles, high slide, goal kicking, face-painting and a visit from Sali Mali and friends. Brigyn and Frizbee will perform specially for the kids and there is talk of a visit from S4C's Planed Plant special act Chef Antony and sidekick Alun with their show Stwffio.
Junior school children must be accompanied by an adult and admission is free for the children, while for everyone else the admission will be £10 for all day and night.
The music will kick off at around 5.30pm with the Roofshakers, who are a local brilliant band who have a very rich organic sound and have also written a few Welsh songs to add to their performance.
Papa Gini, Vanta, Brigyn and Martyn Beaty and Band will perform in turn. To end the night on a very high note, we will be inviting the popular lads from Ffestiniog, Frizbee, to the stage.
Sunday September 17
We have an exciting performance especially for the children with an all American wrestling bout, tag wrestling and ladies wrestling. Orig Williams, the wrestler from Ysbyty Ifan, will guide us through the various holds and slams with his expert unbiased views and commentary. Admission is £5 for all ages.
(Orig Williams will be allowed in free, but will he be allowed out?) See you September.
There will also be a fee (£2) when you order on the 24 hour ticket line: 0871 230 1314.
