Bala is a lovely place, but it's such a shame about the local snobs who speak welsh as their first language. I was having a pint in one of the pubs last year during my stay, whilst said group of locals kept on repeating a curious fact.... They regard non- welsh speaking welsh folk as idiots, I couldn't really believe what I was hearing, especially as places like the town I'm from (bagillt near Fflint) has lost it's culture due to being near the border.

It's a shame Danny Dimple hasn't been in Bala over the last few weekends. It's been busy with visitors and has a real buzz about the place. I would say that Bala has an excellent high street in comparison with other towns of its size. How many small towns can boast two butchers, a greengrocer, restaurants, pubs, a bakery and many other independent shops? As for the parking - I've been parking like that on the high street for years and have never had a problem!

Danny Dimple, Llanuwchllyn
Bala railway station? What a complete eyesore and a let down. Why don't the council make it nice, a place to be proud of, a place to generate some much needed cash and interest in Bala?

Reply to MJ I'll tell you what's wrong, (1) there is a carpark that's empty all of the time (2) parking in the manner of having your backend of the car sticking out means your reversing without being able to see past the car parked next to you hence your moving the car into the path of on coming traffic (3) Bala needs all the help it can get in making the place friendly not a place that makes its own parking rules and blocks visitors "who drive all over the welsh country side and never come across this stupid way of blocking people in.

The way Bala looks now with half the shops closed and the lack of work in Bala dont you think it would be in Bala's own interest to wake up and smell the coffee.

M J from Penrhyndeudraeth
What's wrong with that? Bala council, or whoever is responsible for parking there, has succeeded in providing room for far more cars than end to end parking would allow and the street is plenty wide enough. I know because I have parked a reasonably long car there a number of times and it hasn't caused any problems for through traffic.

Danny Dimple, Llanuwchllyn
The parking in Bala is both stupid and a danger, the cars park nose against the kerb with the boot end sticking out into oncoming traffic. Anyone who is not a local and parks the normal way, ie at the side of the kerb as is done throughout the UK, is blocked in if two locals decide to park nose to kerb/backend stickingout at the front and rear of the visitor's car.I've seen many a visitor having words with the locals for blocking them in. Bala has not been helped by the council. I went back to visit family only six weeks ago and I couldn't help but think "what a dump". Half the shops are closed down and a lot of people are having no work hence tempers are high if holiday people arrive and want to have a meal or drinks in the local pubs.

I had not been to Bala for many years and was shocked to see so many shops have closed down. It was like a ghost town. When I used to come to visit friends a few years back the town was busy. When I came a few months back it was dead, even the red feather shop had gone. My friend and I ended up going back to Llangollen to find somewhere to eat as my friend is a veggie and the one chippy that was open didn't have anything veggie on the menu.
