I have been trying to find out about my husband's grandparents. They lived in Bala and he has no idea when they died. Can anyone put me in touch with someone who could look in the cemeteries?

The statue in Bala High Street is of Thomas Edward Ellis who lived at Cynlas, Cefnddwysarn, Bala. He caught a fever abroad and died before his first (and only) child was born.He was the Liberal MP for Merioneth.

I have a photo of the front of the Goat Hotel taken in the 1890s (my great-great grandfather - who ran/managed the hotel - is in the front doorway with another unknown man). I can assure you it is genuine. According to the 1861 Census my great-great grandfather’s address was 24 Arenig Street and then in the 1891 Census the address was listed as 1 Mount Street, Bala. The Phillips’s came to America supposedly because my great grandfather’s brother was caught hunting on the Queen’s land… again might just be a family legend my great grandfather made up, but that is what I was always told. Is there any way to get more information or validate the story I was told?

My great-grandfather was Robert Ellis Jones who died in 1928. He married Catherine Ellis and had connections with local farms Y Castell and Penmaenmawr. My grandfather always spoke about his great uncle whose statue stands in Bala as he was an MP for Meirionethshire in 1900-1920. If anyone has any info I would be most grateful.
There's a photo of the statue in our Bala history slideshow.

I am very interested in genealogy but have great trouble tracing my father's paternal relatives any farther than my great-grandparents. Their names were Thomas and Ellen Jones Edwards. They came to America in approximately 1886 with their three children, Katherine, Jennie and Tegid Edwards (my grandfather) and settled in Plainfield NY. They came from Bala.My great grandparents' gravestone says "VSGUBOR, GERRIG, BALA". My great-grandmother Ellen Jones, daughter of William and Jane Jones, was born on June 14, 1856. She was well known for her Welsh poetry and prose and won many! prizes in the National Eisteddfod.Any ideas as to how I could trace her family?

Robert Roberts of Tai'r Felin, Cwmtirmynach, Bala 1870 to 1951. There is a plaque outside his house. There is a cassette of his singing available on the web, and at least one book has been written about him (in Welsh I believe). Google "Bob Tai'r Felin" for information

I am a relation of Rev Thomas Charles and will be visiting Bala this weekend for the first time, apart from his statue outside the church on Tegid street, could anyone recommend other places places I should see while in Bala? Thanks.
