Last updated: 08 November 2007

Abergele University of the Third Age (U3A) art club meets every Friday at Abergele Community Centre. Here this enthusiastic group of 50+ painters display some of their work and explain what inspired them to pick up a paint brush.

I've been painting for over 50 years, but I only recently took it seriously. Principally, I like working in watercolour and acrylic - I don't use oils because I can't stand the smell!

Unfortunately you can't sit out and paint in this country, so I take inspiration from my photographs. But I do try and remember that photos do have their limitations - an artist will want to bring forward aspects he thinks are important in a painting whereas in a photo such things fall away into the background. It's important to put your own interpretation when recreating a photo. David Hall
