Abergele University of the Third Age (U3A) art club meets every Friday at Abergele Community Centre. Here this enthusiastic group of 50+ painters display some of their work and explain what inspired them to pick up a paint brush.
Autumn leaves and berries by June Jones from Abergele
I had an uncle who was a professional artist - Walter Grundy - and I used to sit and watch him as a child. So when I retired the first thing I wanted to do was have a go at painting myself.
I especially love painting flowers in watercolour. I prefer to create a less detailed background; just let the colours go, which helps the intricate work on the flowers stand out. It's important to make the flowers look real and alive with detail and shadow, otherwise they can look rather flat. June Jones
