Anglesey was once known as the 'granary of Wales'. Large quantities of barley and oats were grown here. Mills were needed to grind the grain to make flour and at one time over a hundred mills worked on the island. Now only two survive. Llynnon Mill at Llanddeusant is the only wind-powered one. It was built in 1775-6 and remained in use until 1918 when it was severely damaged in a storm. The working mill where the grain was ground is to the right, while the simple hipped roof building to the left was used for storage.
In 1978, Anglesey Borough Council bought the mill for restoration, not only as a tourist attractive but also to produce flour for sale. The storage building now houses a café and shop.
