The historic town of Beaumaris is a winning mixture of English planning - Edward I intended it as his Welsh capital - and Welsh living. It is full of listed buildings and places to visit. The White Lion Hotel and the old courthouse opposite the castle are neighbours from different centuries. Neo-classical buildings exist cheek by jowl alongside arts and crafts. It's an architect's laboratory.
