Dogs are can go on Pensarn beach, but only if you drive down to the railway bridge.

Having visited Abegele beach on Tuesday, me and my fiancee and son thought we would like to take the dog for a run. Unfortunately we were advised by a man sitting in a 4x4 that dogs are not allowed there anymore. Having not been there for two years I was unaware of the new situation but found this to be a crazy idea. Two years ago the beach was full even though raining and many dog walkers (and ones who do not leave mess behind) there. Yesterday, guess what, two people flying a kite and me and my partner. Seems to be the council is set upon driving away trade as we would have probably stopped, walked into town, perhaps visited a cafe. Does it make sense for the council to pay someone to sit in a 4x4 and do nothing? I will no longer visit the area and will find a beach which does allow dogs.

Can anyone tell me if Pensarn beach allows dogs?

Sion, Abergele. I do believe you are correct, saying the traffic lights should be moved from the junction at Chapel St and Market St, since I was at the age of 6, I can remember policemen who used to control this junction at peak times, other times the trafic moved quickly and freely, no conjestion.

Having visited Abergele and spent many of my childhood holidays there for well over 55 years my memories go back to a busy market town with the lovely sound of Welsh being spoken nearly everywhere. I know we have to move with the times, ie market gone, Welsh language gone from the street, and now the water tap gone from the Abergele Public Cemetery, I found to my dismay on Sunday. I had travelled from Merseyside to lay flowers on my grandmother's grave can anyone tell me if they removed it in case it got pinched or is it costing too much money to supply the water for people like myself who visit and just want to be able to fill their vase. The Abergele of old certainly has gone.

What are our council officials doing to our towns, haven’t they any eye for the aesthetic qualities of the areas they are responsible for? After months of disruptions in Abergele we now see that the lampposts they are installing are really only suitable for an industrial site, not for a residential area. People spend a lot of money on their homes and gardens in an effort to enhance their surroundings, then the council come along and remove the posts that were scarcely noticeable and erect ugly galvanised eyesores, and these are the people who spy on us to ensure we conform, whilst they are the ! ones who should be under the microscope. It is time we stopped the tail from wagging the dog, good design is no more expensive than bad; can anyone imagine the Victorians disfiguring our towns in this way?

ah yes sion - if only life was that simple, i am sure you will find legal reasons for it having not been done at the outset.

Sion Jones, Abergele.
To sort out the traffic problem of Market Street, Abergele, is to take out the traffic lights and replace with a mini roundabout on its junction with Water Street and the same with its junction with Chapel Street.

What is coming to the Woolworths site in Abergele? The word on the street is that Iceland are interested in the site.

I remember Teddy Jones and his son Glyn. Teddy was a most unassuming man but was known as an inventor and at the time the airline factory was Abergele's only claim to fame.

Abergele traffic lights are a disgrace. They need to be set so that the traffic flows, which it does not. Why don't the shopkeepers etc complain to the local authority about this?It is causing people to avoid Abergele as there is always traffic obstruction. It is nothing to do with the volume of traffic caused by Tesco, it is caused by poor traffic management, which is evident throughout the Conwy area. How many authorities would accept queueing on an urban motorway, ie the A55 at the west End, Colwyn Bay, into the running carriageway during rush hour? This has been a problem for at least five years, and how an accident has not been caused yet is pure chance. Sadly there are many more examples of this in the Conwy area which has caused me to wonder why.

Does anybody know about Aldi supermarket coming to Abergele on the site of the Volvo garage, rhuddlan road? there's talk about it in the town.

John Lewis, Pensarn
Why are there so many old scrappy cars on street corners with scruffy for sale signs on them? The council said they would end this kind of selling. As usual, if it's Pensarn no one cares.

In reply to Brian Crabb - can I add that we at the town hall are just as irritated and annoyed that the sequencing problems persist. We have had explanations from the engineers, however the lights will more than likely be controlled by a PLC (programmed logic control) unit that requires expertise to set up. My theory is that CCBC have not yet understood that PLC unit and its settings.I agree with you it is most frustrating to be stopped when logic would permit you to go. It's also more of a concern that there is no safe delay between one red light and the other direction's green. There are many near misses - this and many other common sense observations have been directed on your behalf at CCBC by the town council. We all need to keep the pressure on. Please write or email your concerns directly to Conwy County Borough Council.

Brian Crabb, Abergele
I am disappointed (no, irritated) to see that the traffic lights are as irrational as ever. It is exactly the same problem as before. Coming from the Threeways roundabout I stop at the first lights, while the traffic facing me comes straight on for a good two minutes. All this time there is no reason for me to be stopped. This, not any of the other explanations, is the reason why the lights are not helping, but hindering, traffic flow.

Rachel from Abergele .
I moved to Tower Hill from my birthplace in the Norfolk broads, many years ago.I know the youth culture has changed but Abergele still has a lot to offer.I used to spend my time as a girl riding my pony through the woods, or galloping along the beach, and joining local youth club.We used to go to coffee bars then, not pubs, and a great one was called George's in Pensarn. That has changed but we didn't have a sports centre with a swimming pool. The youth club was great for our friends who could start up singing groups, well, they weren't boy bands and Simon Cowell would have cringed, but it was great fun.We used to camp out in the woods during the hot summers, but never got into much trouble apart from maybe sneaking the odd day off school and meet up at our house because it was so way out up the mountain.

However, one school inspector managed to find us and so we were marched back. The teachers were respected and strict, but they were fair.Ithought Abergele was special, and I still do because it was part of my youth and I think boredom can be overcome by enjoying what we have got.We are not in a big city,we are part of rural life and although I have travelled to many corners of the world, I feel Abergele and where we live a few miles into the countryside,is home.

Abergele isn't that bad, it's places like Colwyn Bay that need the work! We want an Ice Rink in Eirias Park :)

much of the problem with the trafic flow through Abergele is due to old people ignoring the pedestrian signals and crossing the roads when on red. This results in the traffic being unable to go forward as it should. i go into Abergele every day and see this occur, these people need to behave correctly and obey the traffic lights.

Rhian, Abergele
I do not like to hear so many people saying that Abergele is such a boring place, there is so much to do no matter what age. I have lived on the outskirts of the town for 25 years and for the younger generation there is the leisure centre that has so many activities and also youth groups etc.

Sammy from Brackley, Abergele Town Council would be very interested in receiving this Airlyn Rug Machine for public display. As you may know The 'airlyne' home rug maker enabled people to make beautiful rugs at home in a fraction of the time required by other methods. It was foot operated and fitted on any table. It used ordinary coupon free rug wool and showed pattern face up. A remarkable invention at a snip 35/- An endless variety of articles could be made with the wonder 'Airlyne'.

Glyn Jones, Bangor.
By way of reply to Sammy from Brackley(Nov. 14th 2006) Ted Jones (William Edward Humphreys Jones) invented the home rug making machine whilst at Airlyne Products,Abergele in the 1950's. As Sammy from Brackley implied in his entry, the firm formed part of Slaters and Wheeler. The company was later sub divided and Ted produced further inventions including one with a worldwide master patent. His inventions were put into production at the factory in Rhuddlan Road. He also built up close relationships with De Havilland of Chester(later Hawker Siddley), AV Roe, Ferrantis (Blue Steak and Bloodhound missil! es), Smiths Instruments, Rolls Royce etc after origininally manufacturing aircraft parts during wartime. He kept between 50 and 60 people employed at the factory. Slaters of Abergele still have some of this history including probably an example of the Airlyn Rug Machine. Ted finally crash landed last year aged 94.
