We don't refer to our members as stroke victims, says Barbara Pilley of Abergele Stroke Club - they are people who have had a stroke, and the word victim is very misleading. Some of the members have been up Snowdon in wheelchairs!

They meet twice every month on Thursdays from 2-4pm at the Old People's Club Room (turn off the High Street by the NatWest Bank).

It's a social club, allowing members to share knowledge and to compare their experiences, and carers are welcome too. There are outings, and there's a shopping group every Friday, with a bus picking up members from their doorstep and taking them to the shops.

The accent is on fun, with entertainers ranging from singers to dancers, plus quizzes. Members also enjoy information meetings, with talks by the fire service, the police, the social services, and similar groups.

The club will celebrate its 21st birthday in June 2008 with a special dinner, presentation and concert.

Membership is just £2 per year - for more information contact Barbara on b.pilley@tesco.net
