Re. Susan from Glan Conwy's comments I would be interested in knowing if Thomas Egerton Leigh was also responsible for taking Railway photographs in North Wales for Valentines postcards.

I visit Abergele every weekend in the summer. I believe the Harp Inn used to be a prison in the past. There is a plaque on the wall outside the pub.

I have been researching my family tree and stumbled upon this site when looking for the Bee Hotel, Abergele. It seems my great grandmother Anne Roberts was living there at the time of her marriage in 1889. She and her husband Robert Roberts went on to live at Graig Fawr where my grandmother Margaret Roberts was born. Does anybody know if the farmhouse Graig Fawr still exists?

I was so pleased to see the letter from Greg Mackinley as I have been researching my family tree for a while now. I knew my maternal great grandfather was Thomas Williams who was the innkeeper at The Harp Inn in Abergele in 1870/80s. He died in 1888 and was buried in Llanddulas cemetery.

My Paternal Great-Grandmother was born in Abergele. Ann Gertrude Williams. She emmigrated to Canada in the late 1890s, and lived into her 99th year. My father was lucky enough to visit the Harp Inn (Pub) which, as he understands, has been in the hands of one Wiliams or another for 400 years. How incredible to simply look it up on the internet and have a virtual conversation about a place, which I have yet to visit, yet is so tied to my family history!

All the postcards that are shown in the photo album at the top of the page were taken by my Great-Grandfather, Thomas Egerton Leigh. He was the Valentines of Dundee postcard photographer for the Abergele and local area. The family also printed their own postcards in their own printing and publishing shop located in The Times Office, Bridge Street.

Seeing a photo of the Harp Pub on Market Street sure did bring back some childhood memories to me. My Grandmother Mrs Roberts used to be the licensee there when it was known as the Harp Hotel and I believe the brewery was Higsons from the Midlands. When my Gran died the Harp passed into the hands of my Aunt Florence Jones and her husband Roger. I left Abergele in 1953 when I was 18 years old to do my National service and whilst in the army my parents Agnes and Bob moved to Nottingham which became my home after being demobbed in 1955. Sure brings back the nostalgia looking at the Abergele tour, thanks.
