Abergele Harriers celebrating

Last updated: 26 April 2006

Sean McCormack gives us the lowdown on what the Abergele Harriers get up to. If you're a member of an Abergele sports club, get in touch with your details.

Abergele Harriers is a very friendly running club based at Abergele Leisure Centre. The club was founded in May 1986, although there had been an Abergele Harriers over 50 years earlier which folded.

The club has grown steadily over the years and now boasts over 70 active members, as well as several social or retired members.

Although the club is mainly a road running club, it also has a very strong cross-country section and several members also take part in fell races.

Currently the club has men's and ladies' teams in the second division of the Borders Road Running League, and a men's team in the first division of the Majestic Travel North Wales Cross Country League, with the ladies in the second division of that league. However, many members choose not to run in league teams and that is fine by us.

The club has many members who run the London Marathon each year, with a social weekend built around the event each time. A club social night is also held on the last Wednesday of each month after training.

Official club training night is Wednesday night at 7pm from Abergele Leisure Centre, while unofficial training sessions are also arranged for Friday nights and Sunday mornings.

All runners of any ability are welcome to join the club, even if they never intend to run a race and only want to run socially. We are not all speed merchants! We cater for everyone; there are several groups from slow to fast. So we have something to offer all. For full details of our club log onto the website (see link on the right).

Love the 5 mile road race you organise, one of the hardest courses I have ever run on! The climbs are brutal like something from the alps in the tour de france.
