Aberdyfi Football Club won the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1936, but by the early 1960s the club had disbanded.
I moved to the area about 16 years ago and played football for Tywyn, but realised that the local lads weren't playing any football at all. So myself and a couple of others got together in 1995 and decided to reform the football team. We got help and sponsorship from a brewery and local people and joined what is now the Aberystwyth and District Cambrian Tyres League, division 1.
In our first season we were lucky enough to win the league and cup double - quite an entry! We had a lot of coverage - BBC Five Live radio did a spot on us and nearly 400 people turned up for the final. That's quite a lot at our level - almost the whole village turned out.
We've got one team and they play at Penrhos Field, near the railway station. It was originally built on an old landfill site, but the ground was quite uneven. So after a lot of fund-raising and a Sports Lottery grant we succeeded in raising £30,000 to totally resurface the pitch.
We're a small community, so not all the players come from the town - historically some have always come from the Tywyn area.
The Mini Minors children's teams come under our umbrella too, though they play in different areas to the adult team.
We don't yet have a clubhouse, so all the meetings and social events are held at the Dyfi Inn or the Britannia Inn. We hope to have a clubhouse in the future.
