This sea zoo is home to many species of aquatic creatures, from giant conger eels to baby lobsters. You can see them as they mature in the purpose-built Lobster Hatchery of Wales. The zoo is also involved in a seahorse breeding programme and has a discovery pool (available during local school holidays only) where you can get closer to hermit crabs, sea anemones and starfish.
New for 2005 is Wales' Craziest Golf Course and its challenges of walking the plank, aiming the ball through the whale's mouth, getting it in and out of the octopus and into the oyster shell. Crazy golf requires no previous experience and costs £2.50 for adults, £1.50 for children, with under 3s going free.
There's the chance to rent a candy-striped beach hut and re-live those childhood holidays in a beach hut by the sea. Includes specific meal packages from hot drinks and snacks to a full picnic hamper. Contact: beachhuts@angleseyseazoo.co.uk to book a beach hut or meal package.
Another new addition is Fish Sounds - a chance to hear what haddock and seals really sound like in the wild. The zoo offers educational facilities for school children, university students and specialist groups. Family tickets are available.
Opening times:
Until October 30 2005, 10am - 6pm (last admission 5pm).
Access:
There are four dedicated parking spaces for wheelchair users which can be booked in advance if enough notice is given. It's then 29 metres from the car park to the Zoo entrance. The reception desk is accessible to wheelchair users and smaller people, and there's disabled toilet provision with no RADAR key needed. The Coffee Shop is accessible for wheelchair users on the lower deck and the shop is fully accessible. There's no hearing loop installed, but menus and information on the Zoo's exhibits are available in large print.
