Does anyone know anything about the house on the beach? Someone said it belongs to Anglesey Aluminium.

Does anybody know who the stone seat in Penrhos Forest refers to? It is inscribed Shackleton's Rest.

In reply to Jane Jones of Bangor; Penrhos Nature Reserve used to house a stately home belonging to the Stanley family. There are photographs of Churchill walking in the grounds during World War 2. The beach nearby used to be their private beach and the house on the beach, a glorified beach hut!The farms were owned by the estate. Further round the coast is a boat house.Unfortunately, I do not how its demise occurred but the house is now in ruins. I would think that the museum in Bangor would have more information.

Penrhos is not just noted for its wildlife and scenery, it attracts many people both young and old for its variety of ghosts. One story in particular keeps recurring, this is the story of the German parachutist who according to some elderly folk bailed out of his aircraft only to be killed on landing in the woods. An event of this kind would surely have been recorded as holyhead was not a prime target during world war 11. I am having difficulty verifying this story but there have been so many reports of this siting from people not having the benefit of hindsight it appears beyond coincidence. If you could possibly assist me in my research I would be most grateful and it may benefit Penhros itself.

I love Penrhos Nature Reserve, we have had many a great walk through it with the family and our dogs. It doesn't matter what the weather is doing, we still have a great time when we go to Penrhos! It is a good walk for the dog, and for the kids too, who love to see and feed the ducks!
