Llyn Parc Mawr
RSPB Wales are currently in the process of developing this site at Newborough as a habitat for birdlife, and intend in the future to provide trails and a car park at the site.
At the moment, visitors are welcome to follow the public footpaths which cross the marshland.
Bird watchers can see a large roost of starlings during autumn time, whilst a number of species of wildfowl make it their home during the winter months. In the spring and summer, lapwings, curlews and ducks come here to breed.
Location:
Newborough, Anglesey
Directions:
From the mainland, take the A4080 from Llanfairpwll. From Holyhead, take the A4080 off the A55, at Junction 5 (Rhosneigr).
Mike Jackson, Bethel , Anglesey It says above there are roosts of starlings in Autumn. Believe me the invasion comes between Nov and Feb. This is also the time to see the lapwings and curlews. If you expect to see them in Spring you will be disappointed. However the variety of birds you can see is wide. Wed Jul 23 09:22:56 2008
Chris Griffiths - Penrhyn Bay, Llandudno I am delighted to see that you have featured Llyn Parc Mawr, Newborough. It was my privilege in the latter half of the 1980s to be appointed by the Forestry Commission as the Leader of the Project Team that planned, constructed and maintained this facility. The idea at that time was regarded as Forestry Commission Wales' contribution to the European Year of the Environment which occured in 1988. The planning work took about three years to complete and the construction work took place during the first three months of 1988. The project was officially opened in October 1988 by the Marquis of Anglesey and it received the Prince of Wales Committee award 1989. Incidentally, in the formative period the project was officially known as the "Newborough Scrape"; fortunately, good sense and local pressure prevailed and the name Llyn Parc Mawr was adopted!
