Haulfre Gardens Haulfre Gardens

These gardens follow a path which stretches from Llandudno's West Shore, over part of the Great Orme and down into the old town at its North Shore.

You can enjoy a panoramic view in both directions, before descending into the oldest part of Llandudno, built before the Victorian tourism boom.

Many plants and flowers are cultivated in terraces along the path, which are set against the rocky grasslands of the Great Orme.

Alternatively, for those with more energy, a new path has been opened which veers off the traditional walk, taking you up and over the Great Orme to its summit.

Access: Haulfre Gardens have easy access to the cafe and provision for the disabled in the form of ramps to the middle of the ornamental garden. There's plenty of seating available as you move around the garden, as well as disabled toilets. The parking isn't specifically marked for disabled.
Location: Great Orme, Llandudno.
Directions: From the West shore, take Marine Drive, just beyond the end of the promenade. From the North shore, from Upper Mostyn Street, turn down Llewelyn Avenue and carry straight on to Cwlach Road and Haulfre Gardens.

Brian Williams from Llandudno
Haulfre Gardens is a lovely setting to visit any time of the year, but when the plants are in bloom, then it is very special. The tea rooms are also a welcome rest to the thirsty traveller. I have spent many a happy time there since moving to Llandudno four years ago. It's a must for every holiday maker.

Peter Ransom - I always thought it was a floral clock but you could well be right. Sadly, it's long disappeared from the gardens. The layout was altered extensively during the 2001 renovations paid for by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Dave Jacobs - As you may have seen, the 'hot house' has been demolished, following extensive vandalism. Some of the shelters have also been damaged, sadly.

We have just returned from a week in Llandudno. Visited the Haulfre Gardens on two occasions. Visited tea rooms and gift shop both times. Lovely food and unusual gifts. Will be back without doubt.

I have a postcard dated 1935 that features a floral sundial at Haulfre Gardens. Does this unusual feature still exist? Can anyone help with more information about it? Many thanks!

What could be better than a delicious lunch with a glass of wine, and that view from the bay windows of the tearooms? Long may the flag fly!

We have been visiting Llandudno about 3 times a year for the last 20+ years and love Haulfre Gardens. We always use this route to access the Orme, stopping off for a lovely cup of tea at the tea rooms where the welcome is always friendly and the food is great. Hope to be able to this for another 20+ years!

Haulfre gardens and Haulfre Tearooms are one of the best undiscovered treasures in North Wales not many locals know they exist but those that do use them and enjoy them on a regular basis, it is a real tropical style paradise where for a short while you can escape the rat race and the home-made cakes are delicious.

Dave Davis, Cwlach Road
It is the most gorgeous place in town although there is no parking facilities. I live on the road leading up to the gardens and people park in spaces outside the houses which causes big conjestion problems. If treated as a nice WALK FROM THE TOWN it should stay as a walk not a drive - please consider people living here.
