I have very happy memories of watching my little brother on stage at the Happy Valley theatre in the early 1960s. He got up on stage to our utter amazement and sang and did all the Mick Jagger actions to 'Little Red Rooster' at the age of five to fantastic applause. He went on to the final and got first prize - toy binoculas. I seem to remember the family that ran it had connections to Matt Munroe.

I sang at the Happy Valley Theatre as a boy whilst on holiday with my late mother and father. The outdoor show moved to the town hall for evening performances and had artists such as Willie Wise and Jackie Allen and Barbara. Other shows incl John Hansen at the Pier Pavilion and Bryan Burdon at the Arcadia.

The Scottish compere was Alex Munro who presented similar shows at the Llandudno Grand Theatre (now a nightclub) and the Pier Pavilion (burned down in the 80s). He was also at the Astra Theatre (demolished) for a while. Alex died about 20 years ago, but it is worth googling as there is a lot of interesting information about him.

I remember waiting there for the cable car about 20 years. There was a sort of open air theatre presided over by a Scottish compere. Is he still there?
