A mountain boarder Mountain boarding
Adrenalin:4
Cost: 1
Fitness: 3

Adam Jones from Llandudno runs the Turbulence kite and board shop with his brother in Llandudno Junction. Here's his rough guide to mountain boarding.

How did you get started?
When we opened the shop, we began to support the local mountain boarders so I decided to give it a go. We use similar boards with the power kites so there's a cross-over between the sports.

Where did you go from there?
My brother and I have a mountain board team who ride in the British tour. We take part in the British Championships, although they're usually won by someone really young - they bounce a lot better than the old boys!

The Turbulence team is more designed for fun rather than serious competing, and everyone seems to enjoy it.

What clothing and equipment do you need?
You need knee, elbow and wrist pads, a helmet and a board - that's it!

What's your most memorable experience?
Ride the Hill SuperBole Mountainboard Centre in Harthill, near Tattenhall, Cheshire. It's the first time I've been to a dedicated park, built specifically for boarding.

Have you got a favourite place?
Favourite place to go mountain baording :
Betws-y-coed - we tend to use mountain biking tracks.

Any other points?
You need a reasonable level of fitness - it does require some walking to get to the top of the mountain but once there it's all gravity!

It's also a relatively cheap sport. A board costs between £70 and £200, then you need knee, elbow and wrist pads which cost about £25 and a helmet at about £20.

Dedicated centres have opened up because it's a lot safer for everyone - the public and the boarders.

But it's not really a dangerous sport - the boards have brakes on them and you can go cross country as well as down mountains.

Where can I have a go?
There are dedicated mountain board centres around the UK. The nearest to North West Wales is near Tattenhall, Cheshire.
