- Find out about Robin's Grand Slam experiences ...
He was born and raised in Llanfachell, near Porthaethwy (Menai Bridge), and was a keen rugby player from a young age. He played for Porthaethwy, Mold and for the North Wales team before moving down South to join Swansea. Robin then made the move to Llanelli, where he captained the West Walians to victory in the Welsh Cup Final of 1998 and the Welsh Championship title in 1999. He remains at the heart of the Llanelli pack. Robin won his first Welsh cap against Fiji on a 1994 South Seas tour. After a period as a key member of the Wales A team, he returned to the first team in 2000, followed by a call-up to the Lions sqaud to tour Australia in 2001. He was also the hooker on the Welsh team which put up such a great fight against both the All Blacks and England in the 2003 Australian Rugby World Cup and a member of the victorious Wales Grand Slam squad of 2005. Robin retired as a player in August 2005 due to a neck injury. But having gained 37 caps for Wales, he has been appointed as an assistant coach to the Wales rugby team, with particular responsibility for the forwards.

I was Robin's Chargehand quite a few times when we both worked as Linesmen for Manweb out of the Llangefni depot.
I too have since moved to south west Wales, and am pleased for the way things turned out for Robin, a very popular guy, that's how I remember him..
And them Sunday nights out with the boys in Bangor.
