Place of Birth:
Colwyn Bay
School:
Penrhos College, Ysgol Aberconwy
Trivia:
Paula Yates was famous for the eccentric names she gave her four daughters - Fifi Trixibell, Peaches, Pixie and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily
Biography:
Paula Yates was an instantly recognisable celebrity in the 1980/90s, both for presenting The Tube and Big Breakfast and for her turbulent private life.

Paula Yates was born in Colwyn Bay, daughter of Stars on Sunday presenter Jess Yates and Elaine, an actress with the stage name Heller Toren. The Yates' ran the Deganwy Castle Hotel for a time, before moving to a large house in Rowen, Conwy. After the break-up of her parents' marriage, Paula lived in Majorca for a time, before returning to Britain and, after being the ultimate party girl, landing a job as presenter of the music show, The Tube, with Jools Holland.

Paula is probably most famous for her marriage to rock singer and Live Aid saint Sir Bob Geldof, and for the eccentric names they gave their three daughters. It all began to unravel, however, when Paula famously interviewed INXS singer Michael Hutchence in her Big Breakfast boudoir, and fell head over heels in love with him. The couple had a daughter, Tiger Lily, before Michael's death in 1997. She never really recovered from losing him, and died of an accidental drugs overdose in 2000. Another shock late in her life had been the revelation that her blood father was in fact TV presenter Hughie Greene, not Jess Yates

I remember Paula when she was a Girl Guide. I first saw her when we were preparing for a gang show in Llandudno, she looked absolutely knock out then. I also used to see her in Ball and Boyds sometime with her dad.

i went to school with paula, and yes its true her parents did starve her of affection and she did crave love and attention from everyone, but in some ways she was very strong and resiliant, and it's her personality that got her in the spotlight in the end. i kept in contact with her on and off in later life, and she absolutely adored her kids, i truly believe the overdose was an accident, RIP paula, we all miss you.

I was about 17 at the time that the North Wales Car Club used to meet at the Deganwy Castle Hotel. The thing that I remember the most was, Mrs Yates serving the drinks from behind the bar with very low cut dresses, and almost popping out of them, I think that the Car Club had a good turn out for that reason. As for Paula I do not remember her as a little girl, as I grew up in Colwyn Bay we would try to date the girls from Penrhos college. As for Hughie Green, I remember him staying on a boat in the dock in Deganwy, for the summer season while he performed in Llandudno.

My dad was the chef at the Deganway Castle Hotel when Paula lived there. Me and my twin sister used to go there after school sometimes to play with Paula, she always seemed like a very lonely person when I look back now, she used to love us coming to see her as she didn't have many friends then. I remember she used to love marshmallows and would sit eating a whole bag full, funny the things you remember as a kid, once they moved to Rowen we lost touch. I was sad to see what happened to her.
