Duffy (full name Aimee Anne Duffy) was brought up in Nefyn, apart from five years when she lived in Pembrokeshire. Her father still runs a social club in Nefyn. She came second in the 2003 series of S4C's pop talent show, WawFfactor, then went to college in Chester and now lives in London. She released CDs in Welsh, but her big breakthrough came with the release of single Rockferry, then her second single Mercy, which reached number one, followed by the Rockferry album. After high-profile TV and radio appearances in late 2007, she started 2008 with a spell at the Pigalle club in London and a UK tour. In the 2008 Q Awards Duffy won the title Best Breakthrough Artist, beating rival Adele. In 2009, she won best Pop Vocal Album for Rockferry at the American Grammy Awards and then swept the board winning three Brits.

Here at Awen Records we're really thrilled with Duffy's recent success, but we thought you may like to know about her first official release that she recorded in 2004. The single consisted of three tracks in Welsh and is available on the Awen label - AWENCD 212 (Recordiau Awen Records) - under the title ‘Aimee Duffy’. 1. Dim Dealltwriaeth (No Understanding). 2. Hedfan Angel (Fly Angel Fly). 3. Cariad Dwi'n Unig (My Love I'm Lonely). The single was recorded at Stiwdio Pandy in collaboration with the then rock outfit Winter of Clowns featuring: Paul Eastham, Mark Beal and Greg Latham plus contributions from Charlie Goodall (Solo Guitar - Hedfan Angel) and Graham Land (extra percussion - Cariad Dwi'n Unig). At the time it went to number seven in the Welsh charts but since Duffy’s emergence on the English scene, it re-entered the charts again at number five and has been number one now for the past four weeks. In addition it's selling extremely well internationally via physical items and a multiplicity of digital deliveries such as CD Baby and iTunes etc. Two number ones in two different languages at the same time is fairly unusual and we think it should be celebrated! As she is singing in her mother tongue you will hear yet another texture and colour to her voice. Hedfan Angel seems to be the people’s favourite but maybe your audience will think differently.
