One year on...

Allanah & Lee Allanah, 15, a pupil at Cyfle, a school for young mums, talks about her son's first birthday.

speech marks My little boy, Lee, turned 1 on August 28 2005 and on that day we went to the zoo. Lee loves looking at animals, that's why I took him there and he really enjoyed it! He loved the elephants and the tigers. He was shouting at the penguins. I felt very proud to walk round the zoo with my little boy in my arms while he was pointing at the elephants and trying to talk to them.

It was also my birthday in the summer holidays and I went to Alton Towers. I had a fab time even though I nearly had a heart attack on some of the rides! It felt strange having my 15th birthday with my little boy around me, because most 15 year olds would be having make-up and clothes but I had things off Lee with 'mummy' on - I also had make-up and clothes - but no other 15 year olds were having presents with 'mummy' on. I wouldn't change my beautiful little boy for the world!

Since mine and Lee's birthday I have got a GCSE in RE and I got a C in that, which I am very proud of. I am already ahead of other pupils in a large comprehensive school, as they don't start their GCSEs until year 11.

I feel very proud of myself because being a mum is hard work and I have got a good grade in an exam already, this is something I would not have achieved if I were in mainstream school. speech marks
