I am a teenager with a baby

Last updated: 31 August 2006

By Katie, a pupil at Cyfle, a school for young mums

speech marks Being a mum doesn't mean I am not ordinary; I'm still a teenager that loves arguing with my sisters, still have a boyfriend, love wearing make-up and on top of that I am a teenager with a baby.

Having a baby is hard and there is some stuff that I can't do such as go out every night - unless I take my baby. I must be in at a certain time to put my baby to bed. Little things like watching a full episode of EastEnders I can't do because my baby needs seeing to. I still go riding on my horses and do other things without my baby.

Before I had my baby I used to think that after I had her my body would look completely different, it doesn't. But like most teenage girls I still wish I looked like a celebrity or famous person such as Victoria Beckham.

People think that just because I am a mum I have to act 40 years old. Which, in fact, I don't. I have had to grow up a lot but still inside I'm an ordinary teenager. If you saw me you might judge me but I'm just a normal person trying to take care of my little girl as best as I can. speech marks
