I met John Lyons in the junior school and when we moved house we were just round the corner from his house and played football with him nearly every night and we ended up good mates. There would be John and his little dog Whisky and mike Iball against 5 of us and we would never beat them, you could not get the ball off John. I think John had the record at Elfed for long jump or triple jump, not sure if it still stands. We had some long great games of football against John, he stood out when we were kids. You knew he was going to be a professional footballer.

I have been watching Wrexham since 1968, I can't remember exactly what was my first game. But I have vivid recollections of my first full season. 1969/70 was a promotion season for the club, and Albert Kinsey was my hero. We were unbeaten at home all season, Albert was our top scorer. This team laid the foundation for the great team of the seventies. Happy days.

Can remember the first game I went to, against Middlesboro when they were a good side. I remeber Dave Smallman's goal to this day (I think he scored) when they took over the kop, but we still won. Then Southampton away, and Burnley (oh that hurts), Chester away where we always used to win, we still do 2007/8. Then the likes of Bristol City we thumped 4-1, they were a good side and Newcastle, then Anderlecht, what a match except for that man who ruined it with two minutes to go - Robbie Rensonbrink but we also got some good home wins like Porto, Jim Steel's goal, away wins in Porto and to play the like of Roma, not many premiership sides can lay claim to these opposition. That's when the good days finished except for the promotion at Northampton, promotion against Cambridge and to top it off the first Welsh club to win an English trophy at the Millenium Stadium, but doom and gloom reared its ugly head a few years later with relegation to the BSP. Now things are looking a little brighter under a new manager and my perspective is we're going to get a play off spot, HOPEFULLY!

My first game was in October 1961 versus Darlington. We sat in the stand in the corner above the old dressing rooms. Wrexham kicked towards the tech end in the first half and after 15 minutes were 4 - 0 up - I thought I'd gone to heaven! The final score was 5 nil. Many a great day at the 'course since then but can anyone better that for an introduction?

Wrexham v Arsenal 3rd Rd FA Cup 4th Jan 1992. Do you remember the BBC/ITV (?) match report that night? Right at the beginning they focussed in on a Welsh flag fluttering from the top of the floodlights over the ground. That very night a mate of mine climbed the foodlight and retrieved that flag out of sheer joy! I've still got it and about to make a Christmas present of it to my younger brother (Rob in Caergwrle) who still goes to every match he can. Happy days.

Does anyone else out there remember the fierce duels between Boothway and Trevor Walters when Wrexham fought (not played) against Chester in the old (but exciting) Third Division.

I was born in South Wales, but grew up in south-east London where I supported Charlton Athletic. When Wrexham played Charlton Athletic I obviously supported the fixture. I forget the result, but I had the impression that Wrexham was a classy, strong team that should have gained promotion to the old Division One and it surprised me that Wrexham make it. Was there a hidden agenda to that?

Billy Ashcroft - what a great era. Had so many good times with Wxm home and away in the late Seventies and early Eighties.

Being born in Gwersyllt the first matches I saw were about 1935 aged 6 with my dad. We moved to the Wirral in 1939 but still came occasionally. I well remember the wartime games with the likes of Johnny Hancocks et al playing on a Saturday, also the Wales Austria match when Ocwirk the Austrian centre half felled John Charles. The howl which went up has stayed with me for ever. On a by the way note when I had become a referee, I had a line appointmentin the Cheshire League and my wife who was sitting in the stand told me that a spectator next to her kept screaming about the ******** linesman from Chester. In 1960 I moved to Weymouth so visits to the Racecourse have been limited but it is still the first result I look for. I am looking forward to seeing them when they come to Weymouth. ******** linesman from Chester.

Having read the comments of Ron Nicholson relating to the Directors wishing to play at the top of Div.3 rather than promotion to Div.2 - they were the thoughts of very many supporters. I used to be a Season Ticket holder and an ardent supporter following the club to away games, watching the Reserves in the Northern Floodlight League on a Monday night. Seeing Ian Moir "toy with and destroy" full backs. Stopped supporting when Arfon had the gun to his head to get rid of either Mickey Evans or Mel Sutton - he refused, got the bullet and remember the guys he was supporting stepped up as JOINT Managers. Is this the Ron Nicholson of Grove Park Boys 1956 - 1961? As I remember he wasn't a bad 'keeper! Hope he still has lots of that blonde hair!

Wil, Wrexham.
Ernie Phythian. Good to hear from you in South Africa, Ernie. I used to follow Wrexham home and away in the days when you played. Not a sensible thing to do these days though. Visited South Africa in the '80s. Watched the game at Ellis Park between the visiting "Cavaliers", better known as the All Blacks, then next day, same ground, watched the football cup final, refereed by my host. One of the teams was Kaiser Chiefs, can't remember the opposition but remember the bull-whip security at that game for a 15,000 crowd, in contrast to the safety, yes, safety, of being part of the capacity rugby crowd. Wonderful trip, wish I had the health to do it again. Enjoy the sunshine Ernie, and thanks for the memory of a player who ALWAYS gave 110%.

My dad took me to my first match when I was about 8 years old in the late Sixties which was a friendly against Liverpool. We were in the old paddock and because I was only small I couldn't see so one of the police let me sit on the wall. I'm pretty sure Wrexham lost but it must have made an impression on me because I still follow 'The Town' nearly 40 years on!

To Ron Nicholsan, South Africa. Hello Ron. If you go to red-passion.com you can keep up to date on everything regarding wxm fc. It is a public forum for Wrexham fans and they have lots of exiles on there, some as far as Australia. Some of the info on there is used for the local papers so you will be bang up to date. Speak to you online. Stuart.
My first game was when George Best played for Wolves in, I think, Gareth Davies's testimonial. The score escapes me but I can remember my uncle getting really excited about Besty. We will be back in the league for sure, we have just got to have faith in Brian Little.

My father took me to watch Wrexham versus Southport and we won 3-2 and Mickey Thomas scored 2 goals in the mid '70s. Remember being on the Kop and the sun was shining - heaven. Best memory has to be Arsenal cup win and biggest upset apart from this season was the season we missed out in the late '70s, lost 4-2 at home to Crystal Palace and had to beat of all teams Mansfield (who finished champions) at Wrexham. We lost 1-0 at home - how ironic. That season we missed out, John Neal left and Arfon got us up the following season with probably the best Wrexham team I have ever seen. Hopefully them days will return starting with winning the Conference.

I played in the Wrexham Youth Team with the likes of Dave Powell and Alex Lucas and Eric Johnson in 1960. The coach was Ken Roberts. Although I only ever played as an amateur the thrill of wearing the green jersey (goalkeeper) was something else. I remember a similar period then, when it was thought by the fans of the directors that to get promotion to Div 2 was undesirable, in that winning in Div 3 would bring more people through the turnstiles than losing in Div 2. Does anyone else remember those thoughts? I have followed the results for some 25 years in South Africa. How I will get results now is for the moment a mystery.

Ian Owens, Wrexham
My first game I can remember going to at the Racecourse was against Fc Porto in the Cup Winners Cup when they were as formidable as Real Madrid are today and we beat them 1-0 at home and were trailing 4-2 in the 2nd leg when Barry Horne scored a cracker with not long left and we went through on the away goals rule. This was a fantastic result, probably better than beating Arsenal in the F.A. Cup. I still go to every match now but our downfall was definitely when Pryce Griffiths sold us down the swanny and we have never recovered as the team this year is the worst Wrexham team I have seen in 30 years. God I hope we come straight back up as I don't think I will ever get used to us being relegated and pray it is just for one season.

First game was an FA cup game against LFC (we lost) at the beginning of the 60s. Getting into the boys pen at the start of the 2nd half and being told we were losing 2:0, we went on to win with 7 2nd half goals, brilliant (I think it was against Northampton, but???). I also remember the game were Ally McGowan jumped up to cut out a cross, fell awkwardly and that was the end of his career. The Racecoourse just went as silent as a graveyard when his leg snapped. Although I'm an LFC fan (born in Liverpool, but went to St Marys and then Yale in 1959), I first look for Wrexham's results.

If you came from Flintshire, if you weren't lucky enough to be able to go to watch the bigger clubs over the border, you either supported Wrexham or Chester. Me, I went for Wrexham. I've got a few old match programmes at home, dating back to 1965. For some reason, the logic of which escapes me, Wrexham's Saturday home games always kicked off at 3.15pm in those days. Every other game in the league kicked off at 3pm. I think it has something to do with closing time because, back then, you could get a drink from the Turf inside the ground. There are some names to remember in the team, such as Ray Mielczarek, what a centre - half, and there are some names to forget about, such as Steve Fleet in goal. There's been games to remember, such as the night we stuffed Newcastle in a cup replay, and games to forget, what about the drubbing (6-1) we had at Chester many moons ago. That sticks in my throat until today and always will! Of course there are many other excellent wins, excellent players, understandably lost to bigger, richer clubs and many other, to be kind to them, not so good players/has-beens. I'm convinced now, especially after the 2-1 defeat to Mansfield, that Wrexham A.F.C. will, come the end of the season, no longer be a league side and, furthermore, I'm not convinced the club will ever see league football again. That is the sad oulook for the club, I'm afraid.

One of my first matches was the home FA Cup tie against Manchester United in 1957 - the ground record attendance of 34,445. I was a 10 year old butcher's boy in Llay doing the rounds in Ted Davies's van. I was given a ticket at the end of my Saturday morning round. Heart thumping I raced to the ground but was at the back of all the queues. In the end I scrambled up the dirt bank of the Kop but couldn't see any play because of the crowd. There were so many people in there that no matter what I did to squeeze through I was kept on the the down slope towards the turnstiles. I piled up some bricks to stand on, but when I went to find more someone removed the first lot. As a result all I saw of the game was the ball going up in the air a few times.

Ref Bryn Williams, Denbigh, nominating his best player for Wrexham. It is impossible to compare players of different eras but certainly players who have provided me with enjoyment have been Alan Fox, Mickey Thomas, Tinnion, Muir, Ronnie Hewitt, Johnny Anderson, Mick Metcalfe, Ken Barnes, Wyn Davies, Arfon Griffiths, Don Weston, Grenville Jones, and lastly a personal friend of mine the late Ronnie Wynne.

There are so many great matches, and I am sure that my sons are growing tired of my barely believable stories of days when Wrexham matched, and often beat, sides from Div 1 and Europe. My first experience of the Racecourse was to watch the lads go down 2-1 to Crystal Palace in the early 1960s. My mum thought that I should wear my best coat. What a plonker I must have looked. Bottom in 1966, the only way was up, and John Neal should be thanked for giving us 10 years of mostly exciting and attacking play, starting from a superb youth system which gave us Joey Jones, Mike Thomas, Billy Ashcroft, Dave Smallman and many others. Remember the old northern floodlit league? We won games 6-0, 7-0, and 8-0 against Brian Lloyd as a Stockport youngster. I travelled to Old Trafford, Anfield, Selhurst Park, the Dell, Villa Park and Turf Moor and it was great every time, win or lose. The European games against Zurich, Hadjuk Split, Porto, Roma, and, best of all, Anderlecht were some of the most fantastic nights ever seen under our floodlights.

We will never see a better team than the 1977-78 promotion winners; I can still remember them all now. They would have held their own in the old 1st Division. The best game has to be the 7-1 demolition of Rotherham to win promotion; Les Cartwright almost beat them single-handedly. The next best team would have been the promotion-winning one of around 5 years ago with the addition of Andy Marriot and Gary Bennett. Our worst ever player? Has to be Mark Cartwright! Our best player ever? A difficult one; however, I will resist the emptation to say Arfon Griffiths, Dixie, Dai Davies or Gary Bennett; for sheer class and excitement, it has to be Carlos Edwards.

Geoff Jones, Oxford, ex Mold
Used to go to the Racecourse most games late 50s mid 60s. Boys pen and Mold end. Rolando Ugolini/Kevin Keelan, Ali Mcgowan, Albert Parker,Alan Fox. Stan Bennion, Grenville Jones, Paddy Sowden, big Bernard Evans (as mobile as a fridge but a lethal shot and a bullet header). Joined the RAF in 67 but my eldest son is an avid fan and we have been to see them on recent visits to Mold. Also been to Wycombe and Rushden. Let's hope the 3 game unbeaten run continues and we can stay up.

I have followed Wrexham since the late 1940s (although I do not now attend games). I have great memories of many great players. Mickey Metcalf (whom I remember seeing breaking his arm when he fell over the wall into the crowd), Gren Jones (right winger who used to take corners with the outside of his foot to make the ball curl in), Ronnie Hewitt, Ronnie Wynne (my favourite), Alan Fox (sliding tackles), Albert Parker (legend), Johnny Anderson, Roly Ugolini (goalkeeper) and many many more. Wish they were there now and Wrexham wouldn't be bottom of the league.

The best match I have ever seen is the only match I have seen for Wrexham which is where they lost 2-0 to Macclesfield which I found quite amusing because I am a Leicester fan myself ha ha ha!

Ex Man Utd winger Brian Tinnion picked me up one Sat afternoon as I was waiting for a bus in Alford to go to the game - that was in the late sixties. What a great player it is a pity we don't allow players to express themselves any more liked they used to. Does any body know where is now?My first game was when I went with my dad to watch Wrexham play against Southend mid Sixties - we won 2-0, I think. Schofield played in goal - great memories. I hope Brian Little can bring some pride back to the Racecourse. Good luck - you will need it.

Attended my first Wrexham games in the early 70s. Only chance I've been getting to go now is the Wrexham v Liverpool pre-season friendlies - is it true that these will be no more? We make it such a big family occasion, as all the family get together for such a good day out. I'm glad someone has mentioned the late John Lyons, his family were close family friends to my family in Buckley. Remember being in awe as a young child, going to his parents' house on a Sunday after watching him play on Saturday, although from memory he played reserve, but I remember the excitement when he came on. Remember also Dai Davies frequenting the shop that my parents owned in Mold. Manager was Arfon Griffiths, remember Mickey Thomas played too. Just recently attended my uncle's wedding, with Joey Jones making a quick surprise hello, much to the joy of my dad and uncle. I do pray and hope that Wrexham do not get relegated to the Conference, and that their luck returns, it is so well deserved.

Crikey, how long have you got! Obviously the Arsenal game, Ipswich 2-1, Middlesbro 1-0, West Ham away, winning the final at Cardiff v Southend, but for me it's getting promoted at Northampton...classic. Favourite Player - got to be Gary Bennett...get you a goal out of nothing, even if it was "getting shot in the box"!

There's so much mention of that fabulous team of late 70s early 80s quite rightly. I went to watch the Reds at Deepdale (Arfon was manager) and we hammered North End (can't remember the score) but as the players left the field, with Arfon standing on the touchline, Nobby Stiles the then PNE player manager, shouted to Arfon "That's an effing good side you've got there, Griffiths". Some compliment!

It's got to be when we beat Arsenal in the FA Cup in January 1992! With the good old Mickey Thomas with that superb free kick and Stevie Watkin capping a lengendary match that will stay with the Wrexham faithful for eternity! They were the days!

My Dad took me to games at Wrexham and Chester in 1963 and let me choose. Wrexham won 5-1 I think against Notts County. I never looked back and missed few home games until early 1980s when I moved South. Seen some great games and some awful ones but wouldn't support anyone else. Loved all the great games and like to thank all the characters who played for the club during the 60s and 70s. So much fun and so many happy memories. Here's hoping the players of 2007/8 will be another list of names who will emulate their predecessors and give us more great times and memories.

Does anybody remember Arthur Johnston a goalkeeper for Wrexham in the '60s? He was in competition with Ronald Ugolany for the first team spot. If I am correct he always played in a blue jersey. (strange thing to remember!)

Dave Evans, Wrexham
Bit of history for you; grandad's brother was Robert (Bob) Evans he was born in Wrexham, in 1881 (Lived on Vicarage Hill). He played local football for Olympic Juniors and Stansty Villa before joining Wrexham FC. An outstanding goalkeeper he was transferred to Blackburn Rovers in 1903 for a fee of £150. Blackburn finished in 15th place in the league that season. Bob Evans left Blackburn Rovers in 1907. Over a four year period he played 104 times for the club. Bob also won 10 international caps for Wales. Bob Evans also played for Birmingham City, Coventry City and Nuneaton Town before retiring from football. Bob Evans died in 1962. The Evans family have a long connection with the club and two of us were there last week at the Liverpool match. Any relatives of Bob Evans out there?

I was a player in the Wrexham Youth side which won the Welsh Youth Cup in 1975. We defeated Swansea Town 3-0 in final and the Swansea team was managed by the great John Charles. The late John Lyons scored one of our goals and I used to travel to the Racecourse each morning with him.

My uncle Gordon took me to my first Wrexham game on Boxing Day 1959 when we lost to Coventry 3-1. The team that day was Charlie Hughes, Aly McGowan, Ken Jones, Harvey Jones, Alan Fox, George Evans, Gren Jones, Arfon Griffiths, Don Weston, Ron Hewitt, Stan Bennion. I was completely smitten by the atmosphere and since then I have seen the odd thousand games or so. I'm now a season ticket holder in the Yale Paddock. After many years standing on the Kop I now prefer the view from the side. I still go to lots of away games and just cannot forsee a time when Wrexham is not a huge part of my life. I would vote Arfon as my favourite player over the years and find it very difficult to select my best game. I've had some wonderful times following Wrexham and the good times far outweigh the not so good.

My Dad took me to see Wrexham against Notts County in 1979. It was Mick Vinter's Wrexham home debut I think after arriving from Notts. Dull game but if I recall Vinter scored a storming header late in the second half. With my family being English Midlanders through and through, I sadly returned to the Midlands but had some revenge. We went to see Forest versus Wrexham in the FA Cup at the City Ground in 1982. We sat in the Forest seats above the vociferous Wrexham away fans. Wrexham scored three. Every time I - a nine year old boy at the time - stood up and cheered. The Forest fans didn't like that much, so my dad remembers. Oh, and Dixie McNeil's son came to my 8th birthday party. How cool is that ?

What a lot of magical memories I've just read. I can relate to many of them. I went to Viccy Juniors and was inspired initially to go and watch the Reds (from the boys pen, Crispin Lane end) because two of our teachers were playing for Wrexham (that must be unique!) at that time - Edgar (?) Jarvis and Ron Jackson who was transferred to Leicester (late 40s). Specific memories are numerous; the magic of Johnny Anderson a rare gold nugget for the Reds against the Busby Babes. I can see Eddie Coleman's mouth drop open when Johnny did his first reverse cross field pass with wrong foot from around his standing (running) leg - that was some skill with those old lead weight balls, the schoolboy team of the 50s that drew 25000+ when reaching the final of the Welsh and semi of the English cups (beaten by Swansea in both), Brian Whitehouse, ex Red, scoring for Millwall against us with a shot hammered from the half way line and still rising when it hit the net (old casey again), Archie Fergusson, great goalie, out of his area looking upfield, trying to see what was going on (cup game at Stoke) in thick fog, and the winger out wide going past and behind him and scoring, Albert Parker's attempted innocent facial expressions whenever he kicked someone over the wall; I've watched football all over the world and I've yet to see a better passer of the ball than Ken Barnes. I do have more recent memories but the older ones stand out and, of course, they'll be gone forever (inevitably) unless gathered together somehow.

Eddie Ewart Jones Colwyn Bay,
Just read your thread regarding Wrexham football player Tommy Bamford. His sons name was Keith! I know because I used to babysit for him and his ex wife Susan when they lived in Plas Madoc back in 1980s. I had the pleasure of going to Tommy's house many a time. He was a really nice chap, also his wife(cannot remember her name sadly). They lived opposite the shops in Queen's Park back then. Don't know what happened to the family but saw Tommys granddaughter Claire in Asda today! Also, my taid, John Ernest Roberts from Cefn Mawr, never missed a Wrexham match. My mum tells me he went even when he was really ill with stomach cancer, now that's dedication! Also, my mum says we had a relative called Colin Green that played for Wrexham some time ago. I think he was from Caego.

My first game if I remember rightly was against Coventry City in a friendly. We lost 1-0, Dave Phillips scoring the winner for the sky blues. My dad being a Coventry fan made me wear a sky blue scarf but I caught the bug and haven't looked back since. Still keep an eye for Cov though!

My first ever Wrexham game was in 1997 at Chester away. Wrexham dominated the game from start to finish and Chester had no answers to the overwhelming attacks and the Reds fans outsinging their rivals in their own backyard. Get into em, c'mon Wrexham.

My best memory of watching Wrexham has to be of the night they beat Hadjuk Split at the Racecourse in the Cup-Winners Cup. I felt ten feet tall as I floated out of the ground that night. I felt privileged to be there.

DENNIS HALL, PEMBROKESHIRE
My first game was v Tranmere in about 1942. Wrexham won 7-3. George Payne the Tranmere goalkeeper was injured early on and played on hardly being able to walk. My grandfather used to take me to the home games at that time. I was a 5 year old and he used to lift me over the low red rail that ran around the pitch and I would sit on the grass to watch the game while he went and stood with his mates. The players who I remember from those days were goalkeepers Whitelaw and Frank (Tiger) Williams, Eddie Tunney, Gib Bellis, Billy Tudor, Tommy Gardner who later kept pubs in Marford and Rossett years. Later, my grandparents used to offer lodgings to Wrexham players during the Ken Barnes era. They had the likes of Ron Barnes, Elfed Morris and Roy Thurnham stay with them. The enjoyment that Wrexham FC has given me over the past 60+ years cant be equalled and lets just hope they avoid the drop to the Conference this year. Lets hope too that the glory days return to the Racecourse soon.

Oops! I forgot to mention the Arsenal game in 92 which I went to with my then husband and his uncle - a big Gooners fan. I do remember the stick he got when the Tewn won 2-1. We were on the Kop that day and I told the uncle to keep his mouth shut as he was expecting an easy Gooners win... And. The following morning on Radio Merseyside, they played "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" and "Men of Harlech". I work with a couple of Gooners down here and they are constantly reminded of that day.

Hello! Although I support Everton, my Dad was from Rhyl and he and his brothers followed "The Wrexham" and I still keep an eye out for their results. I'm showing my age now but I remember the old Second Division days when the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle were regularly put to the sword. And those glorious European nights against Anderlecht, Porto, Roma and Man U. I am very sad to see them battling against relegation to the Conference and, for the sake of Welsh football, they must, as I'm sure they will, stay up. Wrecsam am byth!

I'd just like to tell everyone I'm a lifelong Wrexham fan. I've been going since I was 4 years old. I'm 62 now (you can tell by the colour of my hair). My fav player has to be Joey. I just loved it when he stuck his fist up to me. It was a wet November night, we lost 5-1 to Rochdale. The memories will live for ever more. I think we are playing well at the moment. My fav current player is Mikey Ingham. He's got great hands. I hope he gets his place back ever so soon as I miss him.

The first time I went to the Racecourse was to see my hero Lemmy, when Motorhead played on the hallowed turf in the mid-70s. I went with my grandad Brian, and my nephew Pete. I don't remember much from my first football game, apart from going with my Uncle Chris (Roberts) and my cousin Phil (Formstone), but my other cousin, Keith (Jones) was watching Wales somewhere in outer Mongolia. My favourite Wrexham players since then have been Barry Diamond and Ollie Kearns, only because they were as big as me. I like Lee McEvilly now, as he makes me feel slim. I wish I could get to more matches, but I enjoy working now for my boss, who comes from South Wales, and my workmate Cliffy, who is a double for Johnny Vegas!

Could you tell me if there was a George Wainwright playing for Wrexham around 1940s. I think I am his granddaughter and I am curious about my grandad.

First saw "The Wrexham" play in the early 1960s. My star player was the great Ray Smith who was centre forward. Been a fan of Wrexham since those days when my Taid from Rhos used to take me to the Racecourse. Hope Wrexham don't loose their league status this year though !

Was there a John Moonan who played goalkeeper for Wrexham in the early 70s. He was from Rhos?

Don Jones (Delph) Gainsborough
For Dale Bell. I was born and bred in Cefn Mawr but spent many years in the RAF. In the late 1950s/early 1960s I was stationed near Norwich and can confirm that Kevin Keelan played in goal for them as I watched them play in most of their home games. As for first games at the Racecourse mine was some time during the Second World War and the visitors were Stoke City. I also saw a number of International matches there before I left in 1951. Many fond memories.

Neil Hughes from Wrexham
The very first game I went to was none other than the Arsenal game, I was about 10 and my Dad took me and my brother. I remember I found a red and white hat to put on which was actually a motor racing hat, but at least it was red and white! We stood on the Kop and it was freezing cold, I couldn't see much of the game, and certainly didn't see any of the goals as I was only small. But I remember every one going mad when we equalized and going even more mad when we scored our second cos I just got bounced around by everyone. But what a first game to go to!

Martin Jones, Wrexham
The first time I saw Wrexham play was against Anderlecht in 76 when my Dad took me at the age of 12, up until then I was a Man Utd fan but from that moment on I have followed Wrexham through thick and thin. I didn't see much of the game even though I was on my Dad's shoulders due to the large crowd and the fact we were at the back on the Kop, but the atmosphere was electric and the noise deafening, a night I will always cherish. Also a game that stands out is the 7 - 1 demolition of Rotherham. I was in the small area set aside in the away fans end for home supporters, I had my denim Wrangler jacket on which was covered in Wrexham badges such as "Joey Jones is Magic" and many more, I had scarves on both wrists and around my neck (what a sight!). The game itself was pure brilliance, entertaining football, what a party atmosphere running onto the pitch at the end to celebrate with the players, awesome! I have many happy memories watching Wrexham. People still say who else do you support beside Wrexham? I reply only Wrexham till the day I die.

Joe Prosser, Wrexham
I have never been to a Wrexham match but I remember some gr8 matches like us beating Hartlepool (away) in 2005 6-4 when 1 ugarte scored 5 goals. I also remember in August we beat Sheff. Wed 4-1 away, beat Grimsby 3-0 and held Birmingham at 1-1 for normal time before losing 4-1. The 02-03 season was the best (by far) we beat champions Rushden 3-0 away, Carlisle 6-1, Cambridge 5-0, championship 3rd placed (then) Bradford yet again away 2-1 and winning the FAW premier cup by beating Newport 6-1, also we beat championship side Southend 2-0 in the LDV vans trophy final (now the Johnstone's paint cup) as well. 4get the 0-5 loss stanley earlier in the season. We'll avoid relegation.

My first game was with my dad in 1966, it was the first game of the season v Exeter city and it ended up goalless. The main memory of that season was standing in the boys pen and watching Tony Mccloughlin ram home a penalty against Crewe, a game that saw Arfon Griffiths sent off. Fabulous atmosphere

Dale Bell, Totnes
Can anyone remember a goal keeper in the 1960s called Kevin KEELAN as my family refuse to believe me we had a player by that name. My late father, Nick Edwards, was a Director of Wrexham FCC in the early 60s and I used to accompany him when Ken Barnes became PLAYER MANAGER during that period. I wish I could remember more. Please advise if you can as it's so long ago. Thanks, Dale Bell, nee Dale Edwards.

Eddie Ewart Jones from Colwyn Bay
I don't go back quite as far as Brian Davies, but I surely would have liked to have watched the legendary Tommy Bamford. My dad said he was quite magical. We used to play on the Alex field evenings, and once a lad brought along some rather battered Welsh international caps, which, I'm afraid, we did not appreciate at all. The lad lived in Spring Lodge (was it Queens Park then?). He was Tommy Bamford's son. The first game my dad took me to, after coming to live in Wrexham, was against Accrington Stanley. Wrexham were not the most brilliant team, but what colourful players! Big Jack Boothway would do almost anything to get the ball into the net, including bundling the keeper over the line - It was allowed then. Wilson was the great athlete from the wizard comic before our very eyes. What a winger Tunnicliffe was. These great characters from the racecourse will live on for ever for those kids in the boy's pen, just as will the three stooges, flash gordon, leon errol, and the rest of those Saturday morning entertainers that we saw at the Empire in Lambpit Street on a Saturday morning. A big thank you to all you people who have fought so hard so that Wrexham football club will continue to entertain the community. Too often the mercenary fatcats win out in the kind of struggle we have witnessed over the last two years-but not this time!
Wed Aug 23 09:01:37 2006

If David Jones's early rocket had gone in against Man United, that 5-0 score could have been very different. - My earliest memory of the racecourse.

Dan McGrath, Northland, New Zealand
Being deposited in the boys pen and watching Wrexham take on the mighty Liverpool FA Cup 3rd round 1961 (I think) Ally McGowan we lost 5-1 but what a thrill - too excited to be cold! Alan Fox, Albert Kinsey, Eddie May, Allan Bermingham we've had great teams and I think we have one about to emerge!
Mon Aug 21 11:31:43 2006

Chris Rob expat from Chirk
My first memories of Wrexham FC, would you believe it, are visiting the Racecourse as a Chirk cub scout about 1977-78. I got all the players' signatures and was featured in the Evening Leader with Alun Dwyer. Best games...LDV final against Southend (great day). Promotion and relegation battles during the late 80s and early 90s (remember when Wrexham finished bottom of the league? And escaped relegation into the non league?). And getting a meat pie thrown over my head from the back of the kop during a typical Kevin Russell (Rooster) goal celebration! Listening to the Euro cup winners games away on the radio and beating Porto was it?

Marriott throws the ball to Hardy, Hardy out to Peter Ward, Peter Ward to Connolly, Connolly down the wing, nobody to stop him, puts the ball in the air to super Stevie Watkin! That was a team, don't forget Benno though!

I remember taking my daughter to the racecourse when we were first promoted in about 1984 (?). Wonderful day. She had her face painted red/white and all of the crowd went onto the pitch at the end. Benno down to nature (nearly). She's 23 now and would NEVER paint her face that way again. Still got the pictures, but WOW what a day...

Best day was the ldv final against southend! what a day. Going to sheff wed 3 years ago, beating them 3-2 & taking 5 thousand fans was great. Most historic was the arsenal game in 1992, i was only young but will always stick in my mind, but whenever we beat chester is always good!

I regularly saw the side of the late 60s early 70s when I visited my Uncle Bob's in Wrexham with Dave Gaskell in goal, big Eddie May at centre half and Ian Moir and Albert Kinsey up front. Arfon Griffiths was also around at that time. Went to see them play at Old Trafford in the League Cup in about 68-9 season as well.

been watching the reds since the 70's - mostly from the Kop End. Memories. Rooster v Peterborough in 1997 FA Cup. The Ward-Chalk partnership, as well as Humes-Carey at the back Connolly v Birmingham same year in the Cup, I remember time slowing as Lugger stormed towards us to make it 3-1! King Karl will always remain one of my favourites.. More recently, Cambridge in 2003 for a quick return to Div 2. Wonderful, wonderful times Best still - Wxm 2 Hamilton 0

Bob (Gobowen now Berkshire)
The first game I watched was in about '64 when Wrexham beat Hartlepool 10:1. I think that 3 of the forwards scored hat tricks, the other scored a single goal and that they could have won by a far greater margin had they not tried to get the remaining forward on the scoresheet. It was Wyn Davis' last season for Wrexham before being transferred to Bolton. I noticed one message talking about the lack of passion displayed by the current batch of players. Unfortunately, the Bosman ruling has resulted in the gradual decline of clubs like Wrexham. Apart from the passion of belonging to a club, look at the talent that has walked away from Wrexham at the end of their contracts (Bobby Shinton was the first when he walked to Man City). The club would have been in a far better position to resist the financial decline had it been able to capitalise on the value of many of the players who developed their skills playing for the club. Is the Bosman ruling yet another indication of the manifold advantages of belonging to the EU? If so, let's leave it to save Wrexham AFC.

Bill Long, Yale College (Wrexham)
I've been going to all the home games this season, and some of them last season, and it's only over the last year that I've become completely commited to the club. I used to go every now and again with my auntie when I was younger, watching the games against West Ham, Wimbeldon and Middlesborough in FA cup ties being the most memorable, but the game that got me really hooked was the LDV fans final. That was an amazing game, and since then I count down the days till every next home match. Aside from the LDV game, a few of the best games I've been to see over the last year include: Stockport away (4-1, Ugarte hat trick, awesome game), Maccelsfield at home, when my brother was a mascot, Torquay home and all of the countless enjoyable games this season. The club needs to stand united with other clubs to stop scum bags like Alex Hamilton doing the same as what he has down to Wrexham, and finally stamp out this kind of attrocity that is ruining the beautiful game for the lower league teams.

Hello supporters, just a quick not to ask if anybody remembers me playing as a guest for Wrexham back in 1980. I loved every moment of that day scoring 3 times against a manchester united select team. George Best played and we drew 6-6. A great team!

I think we have a great young lad called Gary Burns, playing for Mold Aleexandra FC. Burns was a Burnley trailist and later signed for Flint Town Utd, before transfering to Mold in January 2005. This season the 18 year old is leading scorer (at the time of writing January 2006), and is getting plenty of rave reviews, it is just a matter of time before a bigger club steps in for him. But until then i for one will enjoy watching this young lad play at Alyn Park. Thanks 24 January 2006

Matt from Wrexham
My first game watching the reds was back in 1988,we drew 0-0 with Swansea, I was hooked and never missed a game. My highlights must be beating Arsenal 2-1, West Ham away when super Kevin Russel scored in the 90th minute. The LDV final was a fantastic day and the fans on that day were great. Let's keep this club alive so as many more people can enjoy this fantastic club as much as I have. If I had to choose one memory it would be the endless goals and celebrations of Gary Bennett.

I started watching Wrexham in the 60s and continued for more than 2 decades. I still remember the passion of the league games, the thrill of the European games and the heartbreak of losing on the away goals rule. I was also lucky enough to have lived right next to the Barrack's field where the team sometimes practiced in the 60s. I still cherish a scrappy piece of paper with most of their signatures on it.
